haha I'm willing to bet when Em bought that blanket it was hunter green but over the years it became lighter and lighter with each wash lol Have you noticed his blanket refuses to stay even and always slips to one side!

Haha yeah, I've noticed that. He's always resting one of his hind legs. It's really interesting how too. Like, one of his hind legs is right in under himself all the time. lol Hopefully this new turnout blanket I'm getting him will stay better

It will...trust me!!!! Skipper, like Murph (man they have too much alike haha), has ALWAYS had trouble with his blanket shifting. I'd go down in the morning and his blaket would be practicly upsidedown. But this one, even on 24 hour turnout where he is out and about all the time, hasn't moved!!! Amazes me, but day after day it is still proving it's self!!! I love it

Bit of an update, I suppose! Murph's mysterious scabs are still present, but healing. The 'scars' from his bite (I wasn't present at the time of his little fight) are showing now (it wasn't a bad bite). I'm thinking these strange scabs are a result of the bite, in some weird way. I got a couple pics. He saw my camera... ...and turned away haha. As for an update on our riding.. well, there isn't really any riding going on. There's soooo much ice, I'm too afraid to ride him anywhere. The LAST thing we need is a (100% preventable) injury. I finally got his new cooler in the mail yesterday Yayyyy!! I love it. I can't wait to show him. The half pad I ordered with it didn't come. They contacted me and told me they're giving me a refund for the pad? Oh well. I'll get one somewhere, anyway.

Andrea, I've seen that kind of flakey white scab several times on our horses. While I can't back up my opinion with any medical evidence, I believe the scab gets some kind of fungus when covered with a blanket for long periods of time and that's what makes it weird. Everytime one of our guys has gotten such a thing it has responded really well to hibutane(sp?) and healed up really quickly.

No, it's definitely not rain rot. I don't think it's from his blanket either because his neck is never covered by a blanket, but I'll definitely try the hibitane on his scabs. The pictures arren't really of the scabs, just the scars from his bite(s). The scabs are covered by hair, but easily picked off. I'm scared he might have some kind of bug on him :\ I think I'm going to put lice powder on him anyway (there have been some new horses in the barn). Speaking of fungus, I think he has some kind of fungus thing on his off hind. He was poulticed a while back, and it's been strange ever since. You can like pick it off (his hair comes with it) but it seems to come back..slowly though. I think I'll put hibitane on it as well.

Like i said before, Bugsie had the same thing on him and Dr. Tweedy came out and he said that it was nothing to worry about. We never had to do anything with it. It went away after a while. I dont think its anything to worry about really! I seen Murphys when i came in a few weeks ago and it was just like what Bugsie had. If its really bothering you, why dont you call a vet and ask about it? They could maybe tell you some suggestions over the phone.

Andrea, when I owned Jazz she had the same thing. I had the vet up, we treated her for lice to be on the safe side, even though the vet could not find any lice or eggs. (better safe then sorry). I too thought it could have been from bites. One thing I found really helpful was puttin conola oil on her feed, it worked great. If I were to have to use oil again I think flax oil would be good to try, but may be more expensive.
