My horse is too smart. Mhmm. I lunged him today, at a walk, and after 10 minutes of walking to one side, he suddenly stopped, put his head up, stared right at me with his ears up as if he was waiting for me to say something, and then after 2 minutes or so of this, he finally turned the other way and started walking. I was like, man, I don't even need a lunge line, or a lunge whip, or myself for that matter, cause he can do it himself. After about 20 minutes, he knew what I was thinking. I was going to bring him in, so he stopped. I walked up to him, and he patiently waited for me to gather up my lunge line, and get on his left side, then he calmed walked beside me to the barn. What a gentleman. Anyway, I just had to tell you that one. That was one of many by the way Yesterday, when I got to the barn, I noticed his hind legs were swollen, and hot. I pretty much had a shit fit, and then proceeded to check for an external injury. Nothing, so I walked him, and the swelling didn't go down much. Not lame, either. So I cold hosed his back legs. Still didn't go down any. I waited .. nothing. So I poulticed it, and when I got to the barn today, and took off the bandages, his legs were 99% better. So I lunged him at a walk (like I mentioned). I figure where he's on a nice bit of feed to keep his weight on, and the lack of exercise he's been getting lately (due to a poor farrier job and messed up feet[soft soles]) his legs are taking a beating so to speak. I also suspect a pretty good bruise on his off fore. He's pretty sensitive on the rocks on that one, but there's not much I can do about brusies except keep him on light exercise for a while. I can't wait to get Kevin Dillon out to do a good job on his feet. Still applying iodine to toughin' up his soles, and still searching for Farrier's Formula. He's starting to get his cute winter coat too ^_^ hehe. I'll try and get some recent pics of him to show you fellers. lol. I have plans to go trick or treating down Grenfell Heights on Murphy Maybe a couple other girls will go with me. Kathie told me Heather used to go trick or treating on Sandy all the time I'm pretty excited, myself. S'all for now, I s'pose.

glad to hear Murph is doing good... due to Murph's age (which he does not show at all, ahaha) he does probelly get stocked up over night, maybe not all the time but he probelly does so maybe bandageing would help, some of our horses get bandaged overnight and he helps alot! i want to see some more pics soon!!he is looking great!

Yeah, he's probably just a little stocked up. I went to the barn again yesterday and his legs were still a little swollen and warm, so I walked him for 15 minutes or so, and maybe 1 minute of trotting, and then cold hosed his hind legs. He's still sensitive on that off fore. I hope it's not an abcess .. but I really have the feelings it's just a bruise. He was doing so good without those pads, but I'll probably put them back on. I don't want him to be sensitive anymore. We have a clinic coming up on Oct 20/21 so he better be 100% sound by then! I think I'm going to go in to the barn after my hair appointment today, and lunge him, or take him for a bareback walk again. Check those legs too. I can tell he's getting bored with all this rest, and 'just walk' exercise.

Just got home last night from my 4 day long stay at the barn. The bruise on Murph's off fore is getting better. He's not as sensitive on it anymore. His hind legs still get a little stocked up, and they probably will be until we get back to our normal exercise routine. Kevin Dillon is supposed to be coming out either today, or tomorrow or something. I think I'm going to get him to look at Murph's feet. Maybe he can fix his angles. Murph's starting to get his cute fuzzy winter coat, hehehe. The other day while Kathie was cleaning Skittles stall, Murph was outside chillin' and he was looking at Kathie through the window. Kathie knew he was there, but she ignored him. It was early in the morning, so it was a bit cold outside, so, knowing that Kathie was ignoring him, he starting knocking on the window hahaha. What a cute arse! It was just a little too chilly for his liking Guess that's about it for now. No new pics on my end, though Justin did get one of him meeting the new pony! Oh yeah! We have a new registered Newfoundland pony at our barn. She's only here for training though. She's between 3 and 5 years old, and grey. And there's a 99.9% chance she's pregnant! Haha. If I get that picture from Justin, I'll post it. Oh, and Murph's on a different joint supplement now, called D-Mac. The vet suggested a supplement with "Shark Cartilage" in it.

Sounds like he's doing great. To bad ponies get older and start have those random problems thou. Like joan suggested wrapping his legs at night will stop him from getting stocked up however you have to be sure that someone will take them off in the morning, if they are left on to long he could get a fungal infection from the heat + fur + warth! It would be a good way to tell if whats going on with his back legs is actauly him getting stocked up or if its something else. For a week you could wrapp him every night then the following week not wrapp him if theres a big differnce in the swelling and heat without be wrapped then at least you would know hes just getting stocked up

Thanks girl Just back from the barn. It's a wet day, so we didn't do much. I lunged him at the walk and trot. Better than nothing. Cleaned his stall and all that jazz, gave him a good grooming, hugs and kisses, and put him away for the night. His legs were stocked up again today. Not much heat, really. And he was moving fine, besides for his random little "ouch my bruise" things. Kevin is coming tomorrow. Can't wait.

Today was the conclusion of our two day clinic here at Adventure Stables. Liz Sutton is great! She's really nice Me and Murph just took it real easy. He's still trying to get over that bruise. On the first day of the clinic, we did shortening and lengthining of strides at the trot, and 20m circles. Today, we went over our 20m circles, and we did them great, so we were going to move on to serpintines, when Murphy started to feel a little off to me. So I went for a trot around the arena to see if I was going to crazy or actually feeling something, when he hit a stone right on his poor bruise. I jumped off, and cold hosed all four of his legs. I found exactly where the bruise is, and when I would push on it, he pulled away. I Applied iodine on the soles of his front hooves, put hooflex on the coronets of all four hoofs(because the outside of his hoof seems to be dry, seeign how it cracks), put magnetic thearpy bell boots on his two fronts for blood flow, and pillow/stable bandaged his hinds (because he's still getting stocked up). I didn't get any pics of the clinic myself, but Ashley got some of me and Murph. They're in the picture place. I think I'm going to get those pads on him again. Donna has them on now, as well. Kevin makes them himself (apparently he has the material to make them ^_^) and a silicone stuffing. And possibly a wedge because he's really on his heels. (Hence why we have a new farrier now).

I finally have Murph on Biotin! I hope it does him good. I finally found someone good enough to ride Murph in lessons hahahaha. (Can't you tell I'm picky about my horse? lol) Her name is Carla, and she's one of the best riders I've seen around in a long haul. She had a lesson yesterday and they did circles, extended and collected trot, and some cantering, then cooled out. I'm just on my way to the barn. Later.
