riiiiiiiight so I was at the barn yesterday and after I helped get the chores done I rode Cativa! She was, as has become the norm, a complete speed demon. I rode with Elaine & Bella (the big perch mare) and Erin & Saffira (who is a big clydes cross mare) .. it was pretty funny, for those watching, to see Cativa motoring around the arena while these two other massive horses are just moseying along. We were lapping them over and over and over again. Highly entertaining. Cativa was so wound up that we even cantered. Its our first canter together!!!!!!!!! She's been cantering with Andre for nearly a year, but he hasnt ridden her since last summer, and I havent been out much this year because my school life keeps me so busy, so getting to the canter (with Me as the rider, anyway) has been slow coming. But we did it and it was awesome! Apparently she has her mom's movement- totally smooth, and just floating along. It was amaaaaaaazing. So yes. Great ride! Sandra is going to Florida on thursday so I'm going out to help on friday night and saturday morning... I should be riding again at least once before I head home for the reading week break, so I'll update then. OH! Tried to get pictures but the arena was just too dusty

Rode on Saturday.... free lunged Cativa first and she was an explosion of energy. Worked up a sweat so then I towelled her off and let her dry, and rode for 20 minutes a bit later.
She was still SUPER energetic and took off cantering a few times, which is fine, because we're working on cantering anyway. But yes. Had to slow her down LOTS because she goes motoring around like a speed demon.
I cant wait for school to slack off in the coming weeks so that I can ride her more than once a week!

Man I dont update this ever anymore! So I've been out to the barn this past thursday and yesterday (Sunday)! It was our first ride in nearly two months, but Cativa was pro. Both rides consisted mostly of Canter work! We started cantering after christmas but never really worked on it. Now its our main focus! Cativa loves it, of course- silly know it all - so its a lot of fun because we can do lots of good work. Thursdays ride was spent just making sure we get the correct leads every time, and clarifying the aids for Miss Diva- for the first ten minutes she couldnt remember what a leg behind the girth meant! hah Sundays ride was much more productive. Got all the right leads and we werent quite so crazy hah... I did my w/t warm up as usual, then did the canter work and then we went back to trot work, to get her used to the idea that she isnt allowed to get all wound up after canter, and trot around like a mad woman. It took a few minutes but eventually she started listening to the half halts and gave me some really really nice trot. I'm going out to ride again tomorrow. I will bring my camera- so hopefully there will be some new riding pictures! ...also have to remember to bring out her spring sheet! Maybe I'll get her to model it for you guys again. hah [Julie Anne and I should post pictures of Cat and Sab in their sheets and see if you guys can figure out who is who ) I'm going to start working Enzo again, starting tomorrow. That should go well. He has had time off but is generally further ahead in his training, because he was in the school over the fall. I'll probably lunge him with some side reins and then ride for a bit. Sandra said yesterday that she has "big aspirations" for Cativa and I for this summer. Not sure what that means. She made fun and said it was for us to be "normal"... Who knows, maybe we'll be in some schooling shows this year! That would be deadly!

Yup her birthday was a couple weeks ago.
I'm hoping to get to the barn 4 times a week or more ... now that I actually have time to be out there riding her regularly, we'll catch up on the year and a half (or two years) that we're behind in on our training.

So I had an amazing ride today! She was perfection, did w/t/c, worked on our circles and discovered that I can slow her down just by taking deep breaths. I guess thats the neat thing about babies, they dont know how to not listen to your entire body!
Anyway it was an awesome ride. The bend and flexion is coming slowly... she still tosses her head a bit but it gets less and less with every ride. Her Canter is so much calmer and easier to ride now. I can actually focus on settling her down and keepign the rhythm even and not worrying about whether we're careening around and going to kill ourselves or not!
going out tuesday and wednesday next week, i'll try to get some pictures or videos!

Cativa has been great lately. Riding her lots and working on bend & flexion now. She is a super star! Except for yesterday for about 5 minutes, where she spooked at the dirt and bucked me off! first time I've ever fallen off of her...
I'm not hurt, it was more entertaining than anything else! She trotted away and then looked at me as if to say "well what are you doing down there? and how'd you get there? for god's sake you idiot!"
it was SO funny.
I also rode Enzo yesterday! He was a very good boy. We just did trot work on the lunge because he hasnt been worked much since the fall. He was a very well behaved boy tho! I will probably ride him again today.

Had great rides on both kids yesterday. Cativa was very well behaved. Did lots of nice canter work and managed to fix her problem with the right lead.
Enzo was a good boy. we did lunge work again for his confidence but we cantered yesterday! Holy cow can that horse really move. Its amazing!! He is just so lovely. Enzo is also starting to come round and really get under himself.
He is going to make one heck of a dressage horse!
