Okay I'm getting bad at updating this Last week I was up on wednesday only, that was the video day I think? Anyway the ride sucked but I think it was because Cativa was in heat and cranky, haha. Was up again this wednesday, didn't ride tho. It was cold and I have been sick all week so I didn't have the energy to work with the kids. I did give them both really good grooms which they enjoyed! Today I was up to the barn again and it was a fantastic day! My ride was AMAZING. Sandra decided it was time to see what we could do on our own for real... so instead of standing in the middle with a lunge whip (to help in case Diva wont go! haha) she just sat and watched. I rode with a little jumping bat today. Its to reinforce when I ask her to trot- if she doesnt listen to my leg and voice the first time then I tap her behind my leg with the bat. She was pretty responsive to it and we had a lot of good trot work today --- yay pro mare! Cativa and I did so well today that Sandra says we will be fine to ride on our own (so long as Christina is watching) while she is away for the next two weeks. Awesome! I'm going up again tomorrow afternoon so I'll try to update again when I get back.

Had another great day today!
Cativa was an awesome girly... even tho while I was trying to pick her feet she kicked out with one back one. I waited her out for a while (I got mad at her when she kicked so then she was worried for a while) and built her confidence up by just picking her front feet up again and again (she is good at that!) and giving her lots of love! Then she gave me one hind foot no hesitation- yay pony!
After that I rode for about 20 minutes. Again... she was amazing. Gazella was in the arena so she was a little distracted but she did everything I asked and I only had to use the jumping bat a couple of times.
I took a few pictures of the ponies outside so I'll post those once I've showered and gotten them uploaded!

No barn today... the horses have been inside all day and wont have their afternoon grain. I wouldnt have ridden if we had gone, either. Apparently Rosa chased Cativa and got her tangled in the fence- minor scrapes and some bare patches on her chest and shoulders and some minor swelling but no lameness and no major cuts. Pony should be just fine! I will bring her extra treats on friday

Went up to the barn with Emilie tonight in the middle of a SNOWSTORM.
It was hilarious.
Sandra is in florida and no one else was around but we had a good time on our own. Neither of us rode- I had Cativa in cross ties for half an hour tho and she was a super star. I gave her a really good grooming and picked all for feet... she even offered both hinds to me. I was impressed!
I also put on her bell boots and polos just to let her hang out and get used to having them on. She was a little silly when I was putting both of them on because she had no idea what I was doing, but she stood like an angel when I was taking them off!
I also remembered to bring my camera home so I'll upload the pictures from last weekend, and the three I took from tonight- of Emilie and I braving the storm!!

Okay so I was up to the barn on Wednesday with Emilie... Cativa came in with another cut on her chest and a REALLY strange lump hanging between her front legs. It was really odd. We called Liseanne who is a vet tech at the OVLAC and she said if her temperature was normal (which it was) and she was eating, drinking, an manuring as normal then it was probably just a weird kick and she'll be fine. As a result, I didnt ride but I did spend lots of time grooming and hanging with Cativa. Took lots of pictures I'll go post them now!

Was up to the barn again tonight with the girls....didnt ride but I did free lunge Miss Diva with Zambucca. They had a lot of fun ripping around! Hopefully that means Cativa will be good when I go to ride tomorrow afternoon I spent lots of time grooming tonight. We also did the polo game again tonight.... she was a little fussy to put them on but stood quietly to take them off. Cativa is so cute in polos! haha I measured her again tonight while she was on crossties. Still 16.0hh even. come on horse... four more inches- SERIOUSLY. I hope she makes it to 17hh, although its doubtful. 16.2hh will be enough really I'm going to Greenhawk this week- going to look for a new bridle! Woo woo!

Okay so I was up to the barn yesterday... had an awesome day! Apparently Andre looked at Cativa's bump on friday night after we had gone (Elaine showed him). His comment was "That horse needs some exercise". Funny enough, we had free lunged earlier that night, so when I showed up saturday at 2pm, the bump was gone! We figure that Mrs Hindy was right and it was just a swollen lymphnode. Cativa is fine Anyway, I groomed and tacked up for a ride - C was a STAR!!!! We did walk and trot work, and practised circles and changing direction. Rode all by ourselves, Christina just sat and watched. I was so excited at how good she was I was beaming for the rest of the day... pony is pro I love her!

From the pictures it looks like the lump was on her superficial pectoral muscles? To my knowledge there aren't any lymph nodes in that area, atleast none superficial enough to be palpable, let alone visible (even when enlarged). An enlarged lymph node generally would indicate an infection of some sort as well, so its likely you would have seen other clinical signs.
I would say she got a kick and had some swelling along with a nice old hematoma/blood clot under the skin. No biggie as you found out, they kinda just work themselves out with time and a little exercise.

Jess- thanks for the info, always good to know Heather- we're headed for dressage but there may be eventing in our future as well. Not for a good number of years yet tho C is getting a dressage bridle for her birthday and I'm giving myself a dressage saddle for my own birthday so we'll be all decked out for the fall! haha

It sure is very useful to have a vet student on this forum. I would have been very worried if I had seen a lump like that on one of my horses. It's amazing that something so dramatic-looking can resolve itself so quickly. Glad she's better, Gill.

Alrighty so I got an email from Christina,
Cativa has a puncture wound on her leg just above the knee. She is getting it hot scrubbed daily and has had some penicillin injections.
Horse! Stop hurting yourself!
haha
Oh my... I will update as I hear all the news.
