Ok, so I headed out to the barn last night (1/ 31 /07) to ride Lucas. It was freezing but it was prefect night for riding. I tacked Lucas in his stall and headed out to the indoor. I warmed up by just walking around the track and changing rein across the diagonals a few times. Then I started doing some walk-halt transitions to wake Lucas up and to get him to focus on me. Then we started to do some trot work. Lucas was very lazy and at first wouldn't do a proper working trot. To fix this I did lots more transitions (walk-trot, trot-halt-walk, halt-trot). After a few minutes he was more focused and forward. We then did 20m and 15m circles in both direction at the trot. I then tried doing some leg yields from quarter line to the track. They were probably the best leg yields Lucas and I have done in a long time. After that I did a few 20m circles in canter, trying to keep Lucas on a even circle and his canter balanced and bouncy. Lucas did every thing I asked him to do for the first little while then he started to break to trot around the middle of the circle. I did a couple of trot circles before I cooled Lucas out and brought him inside. He was a super star and got an extra carrot before I left.

I had a lesson tonight (2/2/07) with Joan and Mel. It was windy and freezing out but the horses didn’t seem to mind. We all headed out to the indoor warmed up and then we started trotting around the arena to get our ponies alert. Lucas was being a super good boy and didn't spook at the noise the wind was making . Then Liz (my coach) set up two poles in the shape of an aero head and made us trot down center line through the middle of the aero. We did this a few times each direction before beginning canter work. After all of us cantered large both directions before we began to work on simple/flying lead changes. Lucas was really good at these except he broke to trot a few strides too early a couple of times. Then we cooled out and I took Lucas inside to groom him. He was once again a superstar and I had a great lesson .

So I had another lesson today (2/3/07) with Lucas. It was private lesson so Liz had me work on prefecting my own postion . We did walk, trot and canter lots of circles in trot and canter. The lesson was only a 1/2 hour so I didn't do much else. I have some pics but I can't figure out how to upload them to my computer . They'll be posted as soon as I can figure out how to put them on ;D.

I rode again today and once again it was windy . Lucas was pretty good but I had to really work to get him to frame properly while doing circles. He was also a little bit hyper because he's been stuck in his stall for a few days due to the bad weather. Our walk - canter transitions are starting to get really good, but our canter - walk transitions still need some work. I'm dying to work on jumping Lucas. I have a lesson on Friday so hopefully I'll get to then. ;D

I was out to the barn last night but it was freezing! I think the temp. was like -11 or something so I only rode for a half-hour. Lucas was a little spooky because snow was falling off the roof of the indoor but like always the worst thing he did was hop to the side. I worked a lot on leg yeilding while doing circles. Lucas is really improving . I did a tiny bit of canter but my toes were starting to go numb so I cut my ride short. Oh and thanks for all the nice comments guys .

Oh that sucks . The ground in our arena can get hard but it's usally soft enough to do flat work and some jumping now and then.
