I've been putting the lice powder on him to try and keep the problem to a minimum, but where he's still on that farm, he's around the other horses, and they still have lice. He doesn't look half as bad as the other horses, because they've scratched off all their hair.
I know all the dangers of lice. I know the can go anemic, and I know there are two different types of lice, and their hair comes out easily where lice have been feeding, and how long the lice live, and how long it takes egg's to hatch, and to wash everything that has come in contact with him, and blah! all the stuff, but it's the owners of that gross farm that don't know anything. If they did, they would have gotten rid of their own horses lice a long time ago. I'm suprised those horses arren't dead.
I'm doing the best I can with a broken knee and all. At least i'm doing something about it.

I'm moving him to a new barn soon. They didn't have enough hay to feed Sundance too, so now that the grass is coming back, I'm going to move him soon.

Man Lice isn't even a big deal for horses... I bet every horse that's boarded in this area has lice too.
Some of the horses at cloverdale have lice... They seem to come and go anyway but for some reason the horses get it around spring time.

"I bet every horse that's boarded in this area has lice too."
I bet that's actually not true, at all. In all the time I've been riding there, none of the horses at AEC have ever had lice. I'm pretty sure lice don't just go away on their own, they need to be treated.
Anyway, Andrea's doing what she can to control it, at least she's doing SOMETHING about it.
EDIT: Also, I've been wondering. If these people are so severe in their neglect of their horses that you're surprised they aren't dead, is there like, any particular reason you haven't reported them to the SPCA?

Speaking of the lice issue, among her many troubles, Razza has them too. she must have gotten them before she came here and now they have hatched (ew). It can be hard to control parasites, especially when dealing with more than your own horse. This would indeed mean that horses in our area have lice aswell, Bonnie didn't have them, so Razza got them from some other horse or pony she has been exposed to.

Well, no, since lice is so easily passed on, and our horses are, for the most part, always turned out with one another rather than in separate paddocks, chances are it would have spread fairly quickly, and spread to one of my guys no doubt. So it's pretty much guaranteed I'd know, as would everyone who's around all our horses regularly.
I'm not trying to pick a fight, just saying, that was a pretty broad statement to make, that "all horses have had lice".

Oh my god guys it's not worth fighting over ... I've been to a good few barns who have had lice. A lot of horses have had a lice. A lot of kids have had lice for pete's sakes. They sweep through schools. It's not really your fault. They don't actually prefer dirty habitats. The important thing is that you treat it, as I am sure everyone here would do.

ok, welll....
its pretty funny how it's easliy spread huh? well, at our barn it's only visable on a few horses and you can't find them at all on others. So, does that mean they only pick certain horses to spread to, or just that it's harder so see on some than others.
I'm just saying, that's all...that lice isn't such a huge deal that everyone makes it out to be, and it certainly doesn't neccessarly say anything about the quality of the barn because it can be caught anywhere.

I wasn't trying to make it out like it's a big deal, I really don't see where I said anything to make it look like I was? Whatever, like I said above, I just think that it was a pretty broad statement to say that "all horses have had lice", that's all.
No need for anyone to get on edge about it, I'm not about to go starting a stupid argument over lice. I was just making a comment. Not everyone on here has a maturity level on par with a six year old.
