gonna start a training log for my boy now that spring is here(hopefully)and he has alot of work to do this year.kaboom is a coming 6 year old arabian gelding that i aquired from maryland in the fall of 2007.had a number of rides on him that fall, all with consequences, and not good ones.he is very nervous under saddle and needs a patient and kind rider that is willing to take their time with him,not to mention someone with a fantastic seat!!after these incidents,i brought him to s.c for some further training last summer, which also had some dire consequences(not gonna go into details, takes too long and most know what happened anyway,no one did anything wrong with him, just boom being 1.scared 2.spooky 3.telling us he was not ready to move on).so present day-he has had a full winter off, plus last fall.in some ways i think he needed that in order to gain some trust with people(history of abuse in his past)in other ways,it's so busy at the barn and at home with the kids, that most of the time i don't have the time or energy to do anything extra.BUT i am a pigheaded person and i am not giving up on him.the other day,i was brushing him in the paddock and he was so lovin it that i decided i would hop on.so i brought a big stump to the side of him,got up, and lay right across him.hmmmmm,no reaction.is he asleep?nope.he just doesn't care.okay, bring the stump to the other side and do the same thing.again,no reaction.well, this is a surprise, thought at least he'd walk away.gotta try that again tomorrrow.maybe it's time to reintroduce his bridle and get him used to giving to pressure.one baby step at a time.haha maybe by the end of the summer i'll be able to walk like 5 steps on him!!like to do this part right, gentle, and as a team.hopefully when we get a real place to ride and i get someone to work with him,he will be ready and trusting enough to just go with it.he's one of my babies and i love him.gonna try to give him a good start this time, and make it stick,he deserves it.so stay tuned-kaboom is going to kindergarten!!!

well, our arena is almost finished, have been working through some spooky stuff with kaboom and he is doing really well with it-not running away or bolting as he would have last year, just stands erect and snorts and blows then walks on.lunged him a few times and he has all his verbals pretty down pat.soon as the last layer is on the arena, gonna call colin to come work some magic.hopefully in the next month,l'll be able to have some lessons on him with colin as the instructor and me in the driver's seat.you all have to come and watch then!just no laughing when i eat the dirt!!anyone after that wanting to come and help out is most welcome-i take any suggestions...........

I'd love the challenge of a horse who's not dead bomb proof!! lol. If you need some help, whether it be on the ground, in the saddle, or for first aid purposes, I'm more than willing. I helped John "de-spook" all his horses- the process involved tarps, balloons, garbage cans, blindfolds, and ropes that looked like snakes!!
