I took Rodeo in a lesson with Sylvia at AEC on Sunday. Jess wanted someone to ride with, and I wanted to ride, so we had a lesson together. Rodeo was good, but lazy We worked on getting him to trot, instead of jog, and we did another exercise to get him moving his hip off my leg, along with an exercise to get him really moving off that neck rein. He hadn't been ridden since October so he was in sleepy mode, but he got the idea after a while. I just had fun riding him.

Rodeo was Superman tonight.
Jess and I took advantage of the arena and took Rodeo and Gunner for a ride. In the dark. Rodeo was awesome. I was a little on the nervous side because he'd bucked me off a couple of weeks ago. But he was great tonight. We walked, jogged and loped. And did a few super stops and backups.
Then Jess and I traded horses and while she worked Rodeo, I fawned over Gunner. God that pony is amazing..... Talk about responsive!!!
All in all, I'm quite happy to be riding my guy comfortably again.

I lunged Rodeo for the first time since last fall yesterday. He was really good. He only needed a slight reminder (one crack of the lunge whip) to pick up his jog and lope. After that, I dropped the whip and was able to just slap my side when he didn't pick up his jog or lope when asked.
At first he was distracted at the jog, and a bit speedy, but slowed after a few circles. And he was nice and collected at the lope. Nice low headset and driving from his hind end. I was impressed seeing he has had 6 months off.
I love my boy.

Had Rodeo in the Mona Lewis clinic this morning. He was really good. We worked on getting him to follow his nose to sross over in front, rather than only it at the nect rein. And we worked on an exercise to get him working off his neckrein. It was great.
Can't wait until tomorrow.

He was wicked! We worked on stops without the whoa, which was hard for me, but not him. I have a habit of just saying whoa. Mona seemed really impressed with his headset, and even said "this little horse really wants to stop" which was awesome.
He did really well with everything she told us to do. He had a problem of turning while backing up, but Mona gave us an exercise for that and it worked great.
And we got straight lines down really really good!
I love my boy!

Straight lines can be hard.. Still working on those all the time..The lovely I ride is seasoned so sometimes she thinks a little too much..
That is a pretty nice compliment.. and the WHOA without WHOA is hard.. lol and not putting your legs forward for the stop too.. hehe.. I've done that one.. fingers, wrists, elbows and Keep your eyes UP! lol

haha I can sympathize with the woah thing. Can't say it to Cativa unless you really mean it ... and you better be sitting back or else you're bound to go cartwheeling over her head! I love when the brakes are good

I haven't updated this in almost a year!
I guess I'll just give a little rundown of what we have been doing this past year. Last summer, Rodoe continued in his training. I didn't get to ride a whole lot, and he had a few rides with Katrina, but then he pulled something while tearing around outside one day. I had him on a performance feed, and he was like something on crack. Everything was yeehaw!!! So, no more feed like that!
Anyway, over all we just did some light work last summer and fall, which was fine because he's not even 4 yet, so I'm in no rush. My arena dried up early this year so we've been easing back into work. Just some steering exercises, walking and trotting. Moving off the leg, etc. Refresher work from being off all winter.
So, we'll just be continuing on with that sort of thing for another month or so, and then we will be getting into more intense work to get ready for the Lyle Jackson clinic. Can't wait for that!
