Watch out Danielle! Trainers seem to keep in reserve these exercises that are incredibly painful, for just these kinds of occasions Trust me, don't make them mad!!!!

Well, I can't train (super lack of patience), and I rode Rodeo the other night for ten minutes. I loped him, asked for a stop, and kissed his forelock. I never tried it, but he stopped so good, I went....Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Fantastic trainer you see.... So do I get a lesson now? ??

Rodeo was in his first show today. He was VERY well behaved, and did great in the show (thanks to his rider and trainer of course). He's going to enjoy a well deserved day off tomorrow up in the field with the boys.

whenever they are physically and mentally mature enough to be ridden, and having the right foundation training to do so (or IMO, should be done before being broke to ride) certain breeds take longer to physically mature then others. some horses are broken at 2, others at 4.

You can ride 2 year olds? i thought it was only 3 or is it certain breeds? Some people don't agree with starting a two year old, and prefer to wait until age three or later. I am ok with lightly starting a two year old. Teaching them ground work, walk/jog/lope, etc. The basics pretty much. And then they get a few months off over the winter, and go back to work in the Spring. Most reiners are started at two years old.

Haven't updated this in AGES...
Rodeo finished up his training shortly after the last time I wrote in here. He's "off" for the winter. We still do an occasional trail ride to give him a bit of exercise. Other than that, he just stands there, sleeping.
So yesterday, Jess took Gunner, and I took Rodeo and we went on a trail ride up the railway bed, and to Katrina's place. We admired and rode around in her barn (literally), but no one was there. So we headed on back the main road, visited AEC on the way back (no one there either), and back home. Over half of our trail was riding on the side of the road and Rodeo never batted an eye.
We rode along the beach and there were huge waves. He never bothered with them either.
So I'm very very happy with him. He's just so mellow and easy going. I can't wait until Spring. And he's growing like a weed too!

Hey Steph ... take some pictures at the barn tomorrow or the next day? haha! Anyway, Rodeo sounds like an absolute star, and I really appreciate the way he is getting his time off. Cativa gets the same except she gets her summers off, when I go home aha!
