wow steph! rodeo sounds like he is doin' really well! i saw him in the turn out and he looks like he has been trained for 50 yrs.
He just stands there. by the way have you loped (or cantered what ever you call it)him yet?

Rachael, he hasn't been loped yet. I'm not training him Katrina is. She is just taking it slow, and goes day by day for whatever he is ready for. Right now he's only jogging a circle. Which is a big step because up until now, he'd only jog a few steps, and then stop. This year, he'll learn how to w/j/l in his own time, and then next year, once he's over the baby steps, its down to work.

Rodeo is now going nicely at the jog. He has started jogging around the rail rather than just a circle. He has also been doing exercises for neck reining and steering. Katrina is FANTASTIC with him. She's taught him so much, and he really respects her, and tries hard for her. I can't wait to see where she takes him between now and next year!

Rodeo was going to be loped yesterday, but stepped on a small stone and got an ouchy. So Katrina got off, and came back later yesterday afternoon and put front shoes on him (now THAT was an experience), which made a HUGE difference.

So today, Katrina came up, did his usual lunge line stuff first. She got on him, did some walk jog and tried a lope on a large circle. I was half expecting a couple of bucks, but he picked it up beautifully from the jog. Nice slow strides. She only loped him for 1/2 a circle, just so he knew what she was asking for. Then she stopped and got off to let him know how good he was. But, the important thing was he loped!!!

Haven't updated this in ages because I was off here for a while. Katrina has been working with Rodeo all Summer. He's doing fantastic.

He's got a really nice lope, and excellent head position. He collects nicely at all gaits. He has started two tracking. His turn arounds are coming along nicely, as well as his neck reining.

And he's stopping like crazy. Even slid about a foot a few times (properly with his rear tucked in and with effort).

Oh, and he had his first trail ride last weekend, and was PERFECT. Not a peep out of him, even on the road.

I'll post pics when I get some of him under saddle.

Rodeo was in his very first clinic today. Katrina rode him, while I rode Teddy. I wanted her to ride him where she is his trainer, and he does so well for her.

He was perfect. Didn't care about the new arena, the microphone, the people watching. Its it very windy, and he just did everything that was asked of him. Jim was impressed with him, and thought he was going really really well.

They worked on the basics, collection and two tracking. All of which he was excellent at. The whole time he was being ridden, Jim had only one correction for him at the two track. Everything else was great.

Rodeo continued on in his clinic today. They did some more work at the two track and then..............

FLYINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay!!!!! He got them as soon as Katrina asked!
