So as I now officaily (spl?) lease Booner (I started at 12:00am today!! ) I can now start my training log!!! Went to the barn with Maria, luckly the horses where inside just groomed Booner and tacked up. When we got into the arena Booner and Con were fine, we checked the ground before we went in. Started warming up, w/t large. Didn't do many circles, cause it was sorta icey in the middel We did A LOT of walk trot, I was just getting used to Booner, I LOVE his trot!! It's so bouncy and comfortable! I think the bounceyness comes from the cylde in him. It was a really simple ride, just the normal stuff. We had to be careful of the ice, but Boone was fine and Conner only slipped a bit I cantered Booner up one of the longsides that wasn't slippery, and I also LOVE his canter!!!!! Did that a couple times on each rein, and then just cooled out. He was great and I was really happy!!!!

will just see about won't we..........LOL jk I'm a little confused??? Jan. 3rd - went down to the barn pretty late. Like 6:30 and I rode at 7:00 Groomed/tacked up. Maria was riding at the same time, she was having a lesson. Just started warming up- w/t circles/large. This time I was trying to figure out the best way to keep him straight. Bascily you just use leg, and not try to steer him with rein. I think I'm figuring him out now He was being really good!! ;D I did A LOT of w/t with him. Working on keeping him straight and forward. (not that it's very hard to keep him going forward ) I tried some sitting trot, after our warm up, and I LOVED it!!!! He's really nice to sit to I was suprised, cause his trot is pretty bouncey when doing rising trot. Since Maria was having a lesson, I took up one side of the arena, and she got the other. Just started cantering. I broke it up a lot, cause I'd canter and then work on some more w/t. That's why I did so much of it. With his canter, I need to work on the transition into it. Boone gets a fast, racing trot, before he goes into his canter Sometimes he doesn't even go into it, so I have to slow him down and try again. By the end of the ride, our transitions were a little bit better, but not much. That's something we really need to work on. But all in all, he was really good, (again ) and I was really happy! (again!)

Becca is right. And he is especially hard to get on the left lead, cuz he's a righty and will favour that lead. But a good half-halt and strong outside leg with your inside leg on as well and he should do it. Keep slowing him down and asking him again if he continues and to rush and eventually he'll figure out that you aren't going to let him get away with it. He's a silly boy! I'm glad you're having fun with him!

Yeah when I tried that today it really worked!!! Thanks Becc and Marsha! Went to the barn groomed/tacked up. I was havin' a fit, cause I couldn't find my half-chaps! Silly me! Warmed up, w/t large. I wasn't working on much at the trot, but definitely keeping him at a steddy, forward trot. He was good with that! And of course when we started cantering we were working on the transition into the canter. I was also working on my position, using my seat and legs to control, sitting deep, not moving my arms a lot, and keeping my upper body still. I was really happy when I got my position right, doing all (or at least most of) the things I mentioned. Cooled out, and after when I was waiting for someone to pick me up, I was just petting him and lovin' him! He was lovin' it!!! ;D Next time I ride, I think we'll work on transitions, and not just canter ones. Oh and, I got pics! So I'll post them in Picture Place!!

(cuz I know I'm in them ;D ) you guys looked really cute cantering around At one point, in my lesson with Sue, I was watching your hands as you were cantering, and you were keeping them nice and still, something I was trying to do at the canter you guys looked really good...again

Sorry I haven't updated in a while... I had a WICKED ride today!!! Took him out on cross-ties, groomed, and tacked up. I couldn't find the girth I was using (the bigger one ) so I had to use his "smaller one". Anyway... we manged to get it up, but it was really hard, and we had to get Kevin to help us (me and Maria), but kevin pulled it up, and since he was strong, boone started acting up, and he stood on Maria's foot! He got in lots of trouble for being Mr. Soss Pants! After he got in trouble he was ok. That was pretty much all the sossy stuff he did today, so I was glad of that! Took him out, and started warming up. Maria was giving me a little lesson, that helped A LOT. We had him on a circle, and what we were working on was transitions, and getting him listening to my leg. What Maria told me to do was, to "assume" he was a perfect horse, so I only had to give him a little squeeze with my leg At first I needed to give him a little boot, and he'd go into a trot, but pretty soon all I had to do was squeeze him. It definitely help with my canter transitions, so what I'll do is just have one whole ride with w/t transitions Cantered on each rein, and then I cooled out. He was really good, except for that one incident!
