My equetation isonly 2'3(only 12 years old..by that time) so I'd possibly do that on Billy. I'd also do the 2'3 jumpers on Billy. I'd do my 2'6 hunters on Lucas though! And yes you can do avalon hunter (2') and your equatation in the same show ;D

No problem Maria! Just a question though, why would you do the 2' hunters when you're jumping 2'6 in your eq? Wouldn't you just do the 2'6 hunters as well? Hunter courses are a lot easier than eq courses so it would only make sense.
Anyways I had my lesson today. After walking/trotting/cantering Liz set up a bounce made up of 3 verticals. The bounce was to get Lucas rounding over his jumps and to have a more bouncy/ balanced canter. I did that a few times and then Liz set up a mini course. She put up a 3 stride line and then an oxer going across the diagonal.
The first jump in the 3 stride was a plank... Lucas doesn't really like planks. He refused it the first time so I circled around and stopped him in front of the jump so he could take a look at it. Then I went and trotted him to the plank again and this time he jumped it. I did the line a few times until Lucas would jump it smoothly, then I added in the oxer on the diagonal.
Liz then made the course a little longer. First I had to canter through the line, then I had to do a rollback to the first jump of the line. Then I would jump the oxer across the diagonal. Then I would canter around the arena and do the line again. I had had a really good round so Liz made me do it only once before I cooled out.

yeah, your right about the eq being harder then the hunter, but I'm still not sure if I will even do my eq o/f. I really have to decide closer to the date, I'm sure we could do it no problem, but where its my first show on him and all that, I may just do 2'. It's to bad they don't have something inbetween 2' and 2'6 (in the hunters at least) ah well, me and Con have been working on dressage, and I know that will help our jumping, so we'll just have to see!

Yeah the flat work between th sticks is just as important as the actual jumping. I'm sure you guys are going to be great this show season I had a jumping lesson today. It was a really fun lesson. Liz set up a course with a couple of bending lines, jumps across the diagonal and a rollback/ jump on a circle. We practiced getting Lucas to land on the right lead after the jumps. Lucas was super, by the end he would land on the right lead every time. He really enjoyed himself... almost a little too much. Lucas would go a bit too fast lol. We might have to use a stronger bit when we do jumpers I'm not going to attempt to explain the course, you can just click the link below to watch it www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDAHTmw0B30

Thanks Gave Lucas the day off today but I went out to the barn anyways. I took Lucas out and gave him a good groom. Cranky pants didn't enjoy it though, he was pawing and making faces the entire time. Then I picked out his stall and soaked some hay cubes for him.

Had a lesson today. Liz decided to make a "scary" jump today just to get Lucas used to different types of fences. So she dragged in a Christmas tree and stuck it under a fence. Surprisingly Lucas wasn't scared of the tree so Liz's plan kind of failed lol. Next week I might bring out a one of those deflatable pool toys (like a blow up dolphin) and stick it under a jump. I wonder how that will go It was a bit of a rocky lesson today. I had a lot of trouble getting the striding right on a bending line and on another regular line. At one point we took down an entire fence (standards and all) because Lucas tripped before it. Well I didn't fall off, get hurt or cry so I guess you could call it a successful lesson lol. And a video of my lesson: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUMzYqATENM

haha, oh my!!! Well, we all have our days The video was cute.....but what I really wanted to see was the disaster jump LOL! It's good that he wasn't scared at the odd tree jump, but what would be really cool would be to have a water jump! Even if you had one of those small inflatable pools! Though, i'm not sure if clovelly would let you fill it up in the indoor!

I had a lesson today. I rode up in Sarah's indoor, it was really nice because I had the arena to myself. Once Lucas was warmed up Liz had me work on getting Lucas to stretch his back muscles. She would have me squeeze with my inside leg, half out on my outside rein and then give with both hands. We've mastered this because that's pretty much all we school out of lessons lol. Then Liz had me pick up the contact. She had me do an exercise that went like this: leg yield off the quarter line to toward the wall. Once I got to the wall I had to do a 10m circle then continue on riding Lucas nice and straight. Lucas did some pretty decent leg-yields. Lucas's trot was nice and fluid and he didn't drive for to the wall like he usually does. It actually took us a full long-side to finished a leg yield! I was really happy with how they've improved I did another exercise that went like this: 10m circle in a corner then do another half 10m circle and go on to the center line. I would ride down center line, turn in the opposite direction, push Lucas into his corner and ride another 10m circle in the corner. Then for the first time Liz got me to try a shoulder-fore with Lucas. Coming out of the corner I would ask Lucas to shift his shoulders in toward the middle of the arena but I would keep my inside like one to keep his haunches in. I did get a couple of strides of it by the end of the lesson but I really had to work for it. I had a really good lesson. My stomach muscles are hurting as I type this lol
