to earlier comments, Emily I can't remember you riding beau??
And Sarah and Andrea, you could double on Beau and he wouldn't break a sweat. He's a 14.2hh 835 lbs with nice bone in his legs, it's not like he's 12hh with little twig legs! You must think of yourself as very big, which neither of you are! Beau definatly didn't mind you riding him Andrea, come ride him again sometime! He can benefit from other people riding him. That goes for anyone who'd like to visit. : ) brandon is hot by the way

Alright, back to brandons training log. Last night's lesson was amasing. It really is wonderous what a good coach can do sometimes. Donna has been riding brandon a little, and the transformation between then and now has been remarkable. I guess sometimes you need someone with decades of experience with young horses to make sure you're doing everything -correctly- which has always been stressed in my lessons and my horses everyday etiquitte. Anyway, the lesson started out like my normal rides. Working on long and low, rhythm and balance in the walk/trot, picking him up and bending correctly in his corners (lovvvee the feel of weight on that inside hind!). Then came onto a 20m circle for a while, transitioning (working on half halts which he really seems to get now). Did some nice walk-canter transitions on the circle. As soon as he had warmed up we went to work on some lateral work, again starting off just conterbending/bending to the inside. Then we worked on leg yeilding into and out to smaller/bigger circles. After this we went large and worked on leg yeilding deep loops and then departing to canter as soon as we got back to the track. The feeling of a horse supporting themselves on their inside hind and being completely balanced for the canter departure is amasing. He's really coming along beautifully, not even comparable to the unexperienced 4 y/o I brought to Donna last october. When I have rides like this I really wonder why people think an unbalanced, unready horse with it's nose cranked down is a thing of beauty. A content, rythmic, balanced horse, working with it's rider and things just *clicking* is the most wonderful feeling I can describe. Brandon constantly works on the bit correctly, he might not be fully bend at the poll, but he's working from behind and not balancing himself on his forhand or my arms. It makes me so angry when I think back to previous people and places (who will remain unnamed) who had encouraged me to yank on my horses mouth to push him into a 'frame' as a 4 year old. Encouraged me to start him over crossrails. What did that achieve?? A cranky sour horse and my bloody fingers from reins pulling through them. I'm so glad a vet check and a year later there has been no signs of damage to my wonderful horse because of my inexperience with green horses. October 16th is out 1 year at Southern, and I couldn't be happier anywhere else.

Well, as we have discussed before, most people just think "OH!! His head is down.....he must be in a 'frame'!" Where have you been? Didnt you know thats how your supposed to do it? Grats babe You and Brandon are amazing together....that effin horse adores you!! I can only hope I can help Raven become half the gentlman that Brad is. I think our amazing coach should get a pat on the back too....*pat pat*

Thanks guys! Lesson last night, worked on alot of the same things we did last lesson. Brandons fitness levels are soaring and he showed that last night when we were doing canter departs from a leg-yeild at the trot almost instantenously and he still hadn't broken a sweat. By the end of the lesson he was a little sweaty but not out of breath or tired and still wanted to go. It's really starting to come together!
