I keep a training log for Brandon in a notebook, but hey why not jump into the technilogical world!
(this way brandons auntie sarah t can make sure i'm not spoiling him from all the way in qatar ;D)
So here's an overview of what i'm doing with Brandon lately.
He's mature for a just-5 year old, in both mind and build. He's a very willing horse, and so it's really easy to want to do alot of work with him. But as you all know, you just can't do alot with such a young horse so quick. The word 'fitness' completely sums up what i'm doing with Brandon lately, improving both his posture and musculature one ride at a time ( :. He is starting to catch up with his hind end and even out nicely, it's a noticible change how much less on the forehand he is (FINALLY). So since december i've been doing alot of 'long and low' work, getting him stretching down through his topline and really starting to work his hidquarters. Lots of circle work to get him to stop going out through his shoulder (my aids are pretty much always hurting ) and even more circle work to wean him off his inside-rein dependency. I hack him out as much as possible, and now that we can get into the outdoor I don't think i'll ever ride inside again (until winter haha)!!!!
Rhythem is one of the main things we've been working on also; rythem in the trot perticularly.
Our biggest problem is in coming back from the canter, Brandon will fall onto his forehand, lose his balance, rest on my hands, and perform this ridiculously fast trot that a distance runner would be jealous of. Again, all the balance work i've been doing has improved this greatly but sometimes he'll still resort to this in attempts to rebalance himself.
Half halts are my best friends.
I'm going to go ride now, so i'llk post when I get home along with improvement photos !
