Hi guys, I decided that I should make a training log for Rocky.
May 10th:
Today we lunged for the first time! He was amazing. He goes on all voice commands. You hardly need the lunging whip at all.
After about a half hour I gave him a long break and headed out for our lesson. We did lots and lots of circles and he's getting better at them, slowly but surely. He's fine in walk and pretty good for trot but his canter is very unbalanced. We stopped at X and backed up and he did it perfectly. What a babe.
That's all for today. Tomorrow is more lunging.
Love, Krys.

Okay so NTR hasn't been working at all for me for the past week but it suddenly works now. Rocky and I are doing great:) Sunny are Rocky can finally stand to be seperated as long as they're put back together later. Our walk/trot circles are coming along very nicely. He's starting to do them with ease. Our canter transition still needs a lot of work but it will come. Lately I've just been riding but tomorrow is going to be lunging. He's still losing his winter coat. I hope it goes soon, everytime I come home I'm covered in his hair. On Monday I think it was, the really nice day we had, I tried to give him a bath. Needless to say, he's pretty afraid of the water. He's such a sook. Hopefully we'll get another nice day soon so that we can try again and show him that it's not going to hurt him. haha. That's all for today, -Krys.

If his coat is still really long you could clip him - but only if the weather is definitly warm enough that he won't get a chill. Then again, it is almost June, so I would think you woudl be safe. Just a suggestion!

Do you use a shedding blade on him? That might help too ..

It's still pretty chilly here Sarah, maybe if the weather warms up more.
Andrea, yeah I do but it's never ending shedding. His coat is still pretty thick compared to Dante and Brandy. I'm going to use the shedding blade on him today for a while and try to get most of it off.

Is he skinny? Thinner horses tend to keep their winter coats longer. I remember it took Duke nearly half the summer to shed out last year, and I attacked him the shedding blade and curry everyday. I imagine he won't have that problem this year, pudgy pony

Today Rocky and I rode with Mel and Prancer. For the first half hour Rocky and I went without stirrups. I need to work on my position soso bad so this is my plan for now, haha. We did lots and lots of circles again. We started with walk then trot and then we trotted half a circle and cantered the other half. He's still not fully ready for full circles in canter yet. After this we set up some trotting poles and placed a pole between the standards to see how well he'd like it. Needless to say, he did a little hop over the pole between the standards. I really wasn't expecting it.
I think I'm going to lunge tomorrow before my lesson. I'll work on getting those canter circles perfect.
I must be off, -Krys.
