beind lame and malnourished are two different things... if you get a lame horse and make him better don't let him starve after....

Unfortunate situation for sure however the animals were lucky that the owners were smart enough to realize they were in over their heads before the situation became even worse. All gossip and hearsay aside (going with what has been released on the news) the question must be asked; is it really this difficult to secure hay in central/the southern shore? Perhaps the issue of a hay shortage should really shine through here/be picked up by the media while this story remains in the news.

Guys I have just spoken with the SPCA in GrandFall's. They have received some items and donatation however still need more. I am currently in the process of starting an on line auction on facebook to help them raise money for hay so if anyone would like to donate an item for the auction please let me know. (Cash donatations are welcome to)I'll post a link to the auction once we have everything set up. I'll also be having a hay sale. Here's how it works -- $7.00 gets you a bale of hay which is sent to the SPCA (with you name on it) and for each bale you purcahse and donate your name is entered in a draw for a McAlister HW waterproof blanket which I am personally donating. If anyone has any questions or suggestions please let me know.

There are some discrepancies between stories as to whether these horses were seized or willingly turned over. All I will say for the time being is that those horses don't look like that because they missed a meal. They have obviously been food deprived for some time.

Having been a 13 year old kid that had no idea what horses needed I can say that it dosn't take an experienced person to keep a horse in decent condition. Thats when I started caring for Bess and at the time I didn't realize just how bad it was because I was just a kid, but I knew what was going on.
I am very happy that the SPCA actually got these animals.. it hits close to home for me because I tried everything I could to have Bess Seized after she dropped from being overweight to almost skin and bones in a matter of 3 months and I found out that her owners had left her for days without hay or water on several occasions. I contacted Hopeall, the SPCA in labrador and grandfalls, vets in western NL, the RCMP in my area and even went to my Vet Tech head who contacted the department head in St. Johns (who I didn't even get a reply from)
negligence isn't an excuse

Since I have not been on here in a wile I never seen your posts..the only reason I posted this was to help their owner out. I asked about trigger and she gave me all the into (apparently false) I also thought it was the seal cove out by St.johns and I do not have a trailer so I told her I could not get him. She asked if there was anywhere else to post because the were going to be put down if they never found homes and I told her about here, she wanted me to post an add for her and I did. Its not like no one has ever posted an add for someone else without knowing the horses in person. I had no reason not to believe the info she was gave me about the horses. The old owner told me that one had found a home with a vet and one found a home with a cops son,so I posted they had homes. I was only trying to help someone out,no harm done. the SPCA is dealing with it,so lay off.

Something kind of fishy about all this to me I just read on VOCM that the horses were a "gift to the girl from a deceased father and brother".... I was told that as well when I originally asked about them. Someone gave them to her when they died to get her mind off it.

So. You should have learned a lesson instead of trying to defend yourself. The lesson being: don't get involved. Especially with things that you have No idea about. Second lesson: believe nothing that you hear, and half of what you see.
You may have had good intentions, but it backfired in your face. It's easier just to keep your nose out of other people's business. If the old owner was going for to put the horses down, that's her/his decision.

I'm still not exactly sure what happened between these horses being posted on here for sale and then ending up on the news, but it seems like you guys are harping on a kid that just tried to help out two horses. I realize everyone is upset by this, but I don't think you should be discouraging anyone from lending a hand where one is needed. If someone told me tomorrow that a dog was goin to be put down because it didn't have a home, I'd sure as hell try to find someone to take it. So what is the difference with doing it for a horse?

Agreed Karlah! Emilys heart was in the right place. I have seen lots of people on here "posting for a friend" The pics she was sent they looked good bc its when she first got them. While all this is going on there is a STB on NLC that is almost in the same shape as Hurricane and buddy wants over 500 for him where is the news camera now?
