Seeing i started to ride Precious the other day I would start a training log for her. I wont be riding her much yet because if im riding her some one has to be there watching (she can be a sketchey(spk?) horse some times ) while im on her.
So about her . . .

she is a 15.1hh STB used to be a race horse but retierd pretty early but still loves the speed!
She is going to be 15 April.28 ( I think ) , ummm used and english and western

and she's AWESOME!!
anyway ill start from the first time took her for a walk
she was horable it felt like i was as trying to walk my old dog wotch is not fun she just wanted to go go go and would not stop if i stoped she would go in circles around me lol( it was kinda funny)

the newt time i took her for a walk . . .
she was alot better then last time she was rough on stoping so what i did was load my pockets with some mints and when ever i stoped and she did at the same time she would get a treat and now when ever i stop she does and if she does it slow and takes a few extra steps she wil back up and still pulls a little but is getting alot better


And now the BIG DAY !! . . . (for me at least i have been wating 5 mounths to ride her !) April .10/09

well fist i gave her a good grooming like always and made her look even prettyer( if thats a word ?) then i took her for a wask to get some of that energy out and then her owner came down and asked if i wanted to try and ride her so i was like YEAH!! so got her all tacked up and then took my time getting on her seeing no ones been up there for a while but she was good only look at me to see what i was at back there and then her owner (Kelley) got the lead line and lead me ( I felt like such a little kid ) down the road ( witch is not an actually road its a dirt road that goes up to there house from the road up past there house and way on in the woods lol) so she lead me down that for a little and when we turned around to go back she lead me a little and then took off the lead and let me be precious started off good haha then walked a little bit faster and faster and then a trot and a pace and then canter and then shes gone haha her brecks are a little rusty well very rusty lol and then we went in the fpasture and rode her around there were she was much better around the barn ( she loves her barn !) and then her foal called out and she wanted to go back and reaed and paced up to the barn and then after that she was fine it was a good first ride .


and heres some pics of that day ha dont mind my horable posture i was kinda holding on to the saddle so i was slouched ( in case she reaed on me again ) and my feet are also bad o well lol

and today well i went up another time this week but i forget what i did

today I went tot eh barn today at 11 and came home at 4 so i went up groomed all of the 7 horses( my arms are gonna be dead tomorrow!) the I let out star,kitty,ginger, and precious out in the field to play for about 2 hours maybe 3 hours then I went out got star and rode him bare back around the field haha i tryed to herd then but they didint really care and just stood there and then i went for a ride around hillview and back came back played out in the filed with the horses took them in re brushed some of then cuse they were rolling then i took precious for a walk and she was soooo good she ddint try to drag me walk in front of me she stoped when i stoped and did not try to gallop back to the barn i was impresed ! and then i went to the bottom of the filed with her let her graze while wating for mom to come get me and and then went home ^_^

Great to hear she has a good home. But one thing, you should probably get a professional to check her out. My aunt was seriously interested in taking her when she was offered up by my friend Andrea Reardon. We had her vet checked and he said she would not be able to be ridden due to old leg injuries, and she had a terrible back. So, some things to seriously think about before riding her.

I laid a saddle on her back before we had the vet out and her back just sunk. We also had a very experienced farrier and standardbred owner look at her on the lunge line and he said she had SERIOUS back and leg issues.

sorry if i ask to many questions lol . but how long ago was this ? her back sank ?? and who was her owner at the time ?

her back does 'sink'... i was interested in buying her a nice while ago and i did research on her and she (in my opinion) shouldn't be ridden due to past injuries... both her hind legs and one of her fronts were badly injured and her back isn't really strong enough for anything... thats all just in my opinion though... i'd have a vet come out and look at her, lunge her, etc and see what he/she has to say cause it may be better or worse than what it was before...

it was years ago when she was injured... it was before she got pregnant with kitty i was looking at buying her...

o ok cuse I know from befor kelley got her she was much worse and she's gotten alot better and keepes getting better since kelley has had her

Saw your comment about how you were using the western bridle because she needed a stronger bit....with the way that bridle is rigged up with no curb strap and the reins attached to the big rings of the bit, that bit is working no different from the full-cheek snaffle on the english bridle.

We looked at her probably 3 or 4 years ago. She was owned by Andrea Reardon and borded at Mr. Bolands farm in Logy Bay. She was free to a good home, and not to be ridden were the terms advertised in the Buy and Sell.


Shelly I noticed the bit also, not much good that way.

Well I went up to the barn today after school went for a ride on star . When i got back from my ride I spent well over an two hours with precious grooming and giving some TLC but it was to windy to take her out side for a walk ( she's not a big fan of the wind:P)so couldnt do much today .
