Thought I'd start one of these for Teddy.
Although Teddy is four, he's very very green. He can walk jog ok, but his lope is rough. We were in a Jim Durling clinic today, and Teddy has ALOT of trouble picking up the right lead. Jim thinks he may have been hurt somewhere along the line and found it easier to lope on the left lead, and it has become a habit now.
Other than that we worked on overbending and getting him soft. He came along really well with that. We did some steering work. He was ok with it, and got better towards the end. But we learned a few good exercises to really get him going.
He learns really quick and is eager to please. He just needs to get the basics down, learn his balance, and get out of some bad habits.

Sounds like Teddy is doing really well. Educate me if you find any good exercises to help with that right lead?

Teddy did really good on Sunday. We just continued on with our softening and steering exercises. and we figured out how to get him to pick up his right lead. On Saturday, he kept breaking at the lope, but on Sunday we got a few good large circles without him breaking. All in all it was an excellent clinic and Jim gave some good exercises to work on. the spectators thought he did really well, and I know Jess, I can't resist that face

Well, its been AGES since I updated this! Teddy is doing great. He's such a sweet little horse and tries his heart out and really tries to learn. We haven't been doing much over the winter, aside from an occasional trail ride.
He was in a lesson with Mike's cousin at AEC and he did really well. He was doing this really cute thing that I thought was funny. They rode in the indoor and there were sunbeams shining in through the cracks. Teddy would be walkin along fine and when he'd get to the sunbeams, he tried to duck underneath them. Silly boy.
He also has no trouble with his leads anymore. Can't wait until we can really start doing some arena work!
