Today I spent several hours working with Ebony under halter. I've started doing 'pressure and release' exercises with her [thanks Shelly !]. She is learning really fast [as usual] and is responding well to halter pressure now [unlike before]. When the halter goes on her head goes down, not very far or for very long, but she's beginning to understand that that's what I want her to do. Ebony is also responding well to pressure from the left and right and moves her head promptly for the release. Hopefully her newly found understanding of the 'pressure and release will transfer over to tying [which is our biggest obstacle] and riding. I'll continue to work with Ebony on the 'pressure and release' exercises everyday then will move onto trying to improve her tying habits. While tied Ebony doesn't know how to respond to the pressure she gets when she moves about So once she fully understands how to react to pressure under halter hopefully tying and cross ties won't be so much of a struggle.
Up to this date in time myself and Ebony have come a long way since April. Ebony knows the voice commands for w/t while being lunged. I plan on introducing the canter soon as she has broken into one several times now while being lunged so I might as well teach her the command [lol]. Ebony does not mind her tack [western or english]. However, lunging with tack is still a bit scary to her but, with practice and patience, she'll only get better. I've backed Ebony many times now and she has no problem with me tacking/mounting/dismounting/untacking her from either side, nor does she mind being led from either side. I've had a few short rides around the our round pen on her [only at a walk]. Her response to the bit and voice commands still have a way to come but, her response to the bit will hopefully improve once she understands the 'pressure and release'.
Other than tying, spray bottles, and creams Ebony understands and doesn't mind much. She is learning very quickly and I'm so proud of her and hope she continues to please, which I know she will []

well ebony had shoes put on for the first time yesterday. . . she was absolutely SUPER !. . . Laura is in from the east coast so i decided to have ebony hot shoed. . . it didn't bother her one bit. . . myself, dave, and beatrice were so impressed with how calm she has become since i've started working with her. . . we only put shoe's on her front hooves as she doesn't really need them on her hinds just yet. . . but now that she has shoes the real training can begin

Well Ebony is doing super well ... did some more lunging with her today... used the lunging surcingle to get her used to the pressure at a w/j... still haven't introduced the lope completely... if she breaks into a lope i'll keep her going with it, but thats it... her tying is getting much much better... she is doing really well in cross ties now, but single lead tying is still posing a bit of a problem... she is also becoming accustomed to spray bottles now... lol... she is doing good with transitions walk-jog-walk-woah-walk-jog... ... i've decided to just go with western pleasure for her discipline... she seems to be learning so quickly !... i plan on introducing the lope later next week... and for the record her shoes are still on ... lol...

Dennis Mahoney is going to start working with Ebony very soon ! So she should come along a little quicker because he has experience with green horses. I've so happy he said he'd take her on as one of his "students". Not much has changed since my last post. I've introduced the lope thats about it. And introduced it is all I did. Haven't taking it any further because it cause more problems then anything else. Her progress started going backwards for awhile but she's starting to get back to her alert knowing self again. Myself and Dennis will be using Greg and Joanne (my neighbours) indoor riding arena mostly I think (used to be Amanda Langdons barn). My outdoor arena is no where near ready for use and my round pen is a little on the small side. But I'll update again once Dennis has a session with her
