Well I've been working with my four year appaloosa/newfoundland pony mare for about three months now... I've worked with her in the past but her ground work and actual training has just really begun... a close friend of mine owned her but began to find it too hard with the two horses, sheep, business, and her husband (jk)... so she gave me Ebony Sky-Lee to ride and train as my own...
So far since I've been working with Sky we've worked on her leading and getting her used to different tack, sounds, and things she may see on the trail... The leading is coming along great and she doesn't mind tack at all but she is still nervous around certain objects but that will all come with time... I've began lunging her... she walks when being lunged however everything else is going to take some more work... I've sat on her back and have been led while on her... She didn't seem to mind in the round pen while Beauty was close by but wasn't as calm in front of the barn away from Beauty... Beauty is Sky's dam and they have never been seperated... That will be my biggest obstacle to get her threw (getting her used to being away from mommy)... I'm bringing her to the May 24th clinic at CRS for some session with Lisa Tulk... I'm hoping Lisa's knowledge and experience will get me and Sky off on a good start... get her exposed and help Sky realise things aren't so bad without mommy... lol...
But if anyone has any suggestions, comments, questions, etc please ask, tell, etc... lol
thanks
here are some pics of Sky so far. will update regularly
(i don't use a tom thumb on her. i use a german snaffle or a loose ring snaffle. mom bought me a new bit and wanted to see it on her. my mom is trying to learn and understand more about horses so... lol...)
