We'll I just bought Grissom off of Kathie Lane, he arrived last thursday and I have decided to re name him to Logan. He's quite a doll, and already improving. No pictures as of yet. Would help if I had a camera hehe =/
Anyway, when he got here he was looking at everything, right quiet, yet still paying close attention to everything around him. Since then he has made friends with the calf in the pasture right by him, and that's his favourite corner to be in. Slowly trying to get the weight back on him and work throuhh his 'issues'.
First day working with him I decided to 'test' him out. Put the surcingle on him, was as quiet as anything for thirthy seconds then BOOM. Went off liek a bucking bronc. I let him gobucking around to get it out of him, and it only lasted 3 mins. Got him back, and was as good as anything.
Second day... Same thing...
Third day... too hot so I let him just be that day.... But he was following me around. Backing when I was, turning, walking forward. was really cool. Definetly a good sign.
Today.... I lunged the energy out of him a bit, and put the surcingle on again. He was nervous, you could tell by his breathing, but this time he dind't budge. Lunged him qucikly both ways and gave him loads of praise.
:]
I'll be more detailed in future entries. Try to write as things happen.
Wish me luck all, and a safe time.

thanks all. In my opinion a month is not enough for him, he needs loads more time. A couple of small sessions per day, just getting trust. I'll try my best with him. On the good side, he's kept at home, so I get to spend loads of time with him.

Griss is a wonderful horse! We sure miss him. I'm sure with the right kind of hay, and a good feeding schedule like we had him on, he'll keep gaining weight. I'm glad he's gone to someone who can spend all their time on him, and only him! Just don't rush, and everything will work out fine.

Congrats on your new horse. If you're having trouble gaining trust/creating a bond, then I'd look into Parelli. My horse was also a very agressive/dominante horse when I first got him. A few months of Parelli has changed both myself and him. A lot of the times it's a riders error because of the way our horse's act, or, because your horse is a left brained horse, and is always thinking. Good luck with him, if you have any questions about Parelli, then feel free to PM me. If you do start it, you will be quite amazed in the difference in YOU and your horse.

Grissom is such a sweetheart, I loved walking into the barn and seeing him there, usually full of greetings and licks for your hands. I'm really glad to hear that you're taking your time with him, and sounds like he's deffinatly getting the attention he needs. Not saying we didn't love him haha. I wish you all the luck, keep us posted

Well worked with him again today. Gave him the last two days off cause of the weather.
Fed him, then went to get a camera and took loads of pics. Their on another computer so I'll upload them sometime soon. I wanted to see how'd he react so I didn't lunge him first and put the surcingle on, he seemed fine and then the tick happened again. I just let him run it off. Went to get him, calmed him donw and lunged him a bit more. He was breathing pretty heavilly so I kept it short since he had a nice gallop around when he had his little fit.
It's quite interesting the way he reacts to it though. Like a switch is turned on all of a sudden. Tomorrow, or even before I feed him dinner I'll go at it again with him. Lunge him first a bit this time, as that seems to be the best way to it. I forgot my gloves this morning so I couldn't hold him, wil make sure to have them on next time. I'm also going to try to build a round pen of sorts out here, and that will help loads. Right now I don't have the greatest spot to train. When the back meadow get's hayed though, I'll use that. It's nice and flat and huge, and will build the round pen there.
My pop also told me he got out last night cause they left the gate open to the back meadow and he had a nice gallop back there. I can't wait till it get's hayed and I can turn him out there.
