Well today Mai had an "achievement". She used to be afraid of sawdust bags, and the last few days, when i groomed her i'd rub her down with it before i start. and she kinda freaked out the first few times but then she got better/more used to it. So today, I laid a sawdust bag flat on the floor, and I let her go into the barn herself a few times a week I walk by her side but no lead and i dont hold onto her or anything.) and she walked into the barn, and seen the sawdust bag she kept walking towards it and then stopped, sniffed it, and walked on over it no problem! ;D I was so proud of her haha .. ok that was a bit senseless, but i wanted to share haha Oh and i know that some of you are thinking " well that was a bit dangerous", but it wasn't really. So Boo. haha

I don't see that being very dangerous. Shes only little, im sure if she managed to get caught up you could of easily interfered and helped Thats a really good step for her! Now in the future at shows or whatever if theres a bag of some sort she probally wont blink an eye at it

That's great Michelle It's great that she figured out that they won't hurt her so young so that she'll already know it when she's older!

the way i see it, nothing is dangerous with newfoundland ponies because if they overreact you can just man-handle them until they calm down. i love how star tries to drag me when she wants to run away but i can just turn her around and say "not today missy". lol it's great having teeny horses. i remember trying it with capone though when he freaked once. a 16.2 hh hanoverian is a lot different apparently and i got a mouthful of dirt. it's a lot easier to hold back a newf.

haha .... JR's horse Allende (16.2hh warmblood) has ripped the lead from her hands on more then one occasion on showgrounds. Last summer she rode in a class with her hands bandaged beneath her gloves because Allende had ripped some skin of her palms and she was bleeding!
talk about dedication!?
