Wow....I havent written anything in here in a long time. Anyway here goes: The rainbow girls and I have started our lessons at Kings. We've done 2 so far and they've been AMAZING. Already I can feel my riding starting to improve (IloveLiz!!!). I'm riding Nick in my lessons (thanks Michelle!) which is a LOT of fun but it definitley makes me work- its really strange to ride such a big animal when I'm so used to the little ponies. Riding with Liz is solidifying all the work I have put in on Beauty tho- she confirms all my training beliefs and methods. A lot of the things she is suggesting for Nick and I are the same, or similar, things as to what I did with the Beast. That makes me feel good. More into detail about Beauty: we're riding in Sasha's Crosby Corinthian now and its just phenomenal. I'm in love with it and desperately want to buy it but Sasha will never sell Anyway- its really comfortable and I find it great for my position. We've also been working on the "general indifference" attitude that Karlah talked about in my "Mostly for aks" thread. It seems to be working really well- Beauty hasnt spooked at all in the past 2 weeks! (Mind you, I've only ridden 4 or 5 times ) Last night over my supper break I rode Beauty outside for the first time this summer (most days I ride at lunch, when there are horses having some turnout time in the outdoor arena- therefore I ride in the indoor.) She was PRO! There were poles on the ground that we had to ride around...normally she is spooky and will be a bit of a freak if there are poles ANYWHERE in the arena, but I kept up the 'general indifference' and she was awesome. She also never spooked ONCE at trucks driving up and down the road, or at the wind blowing the trees. We rode into EVERY corner and she trusted me 100%. We did w/t/c as well, which is great because I havent cantered her in a while. Her canter last night was INCREDBILEEEEEEEEEE! Yay! haha it was very balanced (for the Beast) and very steady and rhythmic. I sat to it the entire time without bouncing around (a hard task because she is usually very unbalanced and hard to sit in canter) and I only went into two point on one long side just to let her have a little hand gallop. Now I just need to get more impulsion so that she is really using her hind end... I tried to do some no-stirrup practise (we did it in my lesson at Kings last Tuesday) but I found out that Beauty doesnt like me riding with no stirrups- she started being cranky as soon as I crossed them over her withers! I made her ride for 2 minutes like it tho, and then went back to using the stirrups. I'm going to do a little bit of no stirrup work every time I ride to get her used to it. Ok thats enough for today

Quick update.... Beauty is being a star, as per usual. In our lessons at Kings we've been doing mostly no stirrup work with a whole lot of leg yeilding on the go. I've been practising a lot at "home" on the Beast...she is doing really really well at leg yeilds! So far we can leg yeild left and right, onto the track from the quarter line, towards the center from the inside track and from the inside track to the quarterline, then back again. She is a star...we just have to work on going from the actual track to the quarter line. Like Liz has warned us...once the Beast is on the track she doesnt want to get off of it. I think if i had a longer arena I would get results - it just takes a longer time then I have in a 60m arena. My exercise tomorrow is the one we did in my last lesson. Leg yeild from the quarter line to the track, then, when you hit the track, pick up the canter. Beauty will most likely find this hard...stupid canter My goal is to leg yeild to the track, then pick the canter up in the first corner. And then slowly move it one stride closer to the moment when I hit the track out of the leg yeild. Hopefully this will work!!!!

Lunged in the small ring today- it was too hot and dusty in the arena to ride :S Lunging went well tho...we worked on a steady trot, tracking up, our canter transitions and the canter in general. She was pretty steady/rhythmic and only spooked once! Yaylove. I liek working in the small ring, it's a nice size to use for lunging (I'd guess about a 20 or 25m circle ). I might try free lunging the Beast in it later this week, as I'm hoping to ride tomorrow!!!

Haha just make sure she doesnt jump out of the arena like a certain horse I used to own did...
She cleared the 4ft fence with ease...I had mixed emotions...shocked that she did it, awe that should could jump that high, and a twinge of fear when I realized she was galloping into the barn there there were horses in crossties...
Oi.

Hahaha that's nothin! My horse's sire ran off up a 40 foot steep hill and cleared a 5 foot fence. Bev was there, and she thought her horse would be dead, after that. haha. Crazy Stally. On the other hannnddd sounds like you and Beauty are doing great! Hopefully I can get out to see her

Beauty is doing fabulous I havent ridden much in the past 2 weeks (except for my 2 lessons!) but I'mok with that bcause shes been out from 10am-4pm for the past number of days...the long turnout time is good for her breathing!! I lunged her yesterday at lunchtime and she was really good!! We started off just on the flat but then I put a pole on the circle and we lunged t/c over it. At first she was bolting and jumping over it, but after a few times each direction she settled down and just went over it like a normal horse. I'm planning on doing it with 4 poles over the weekend!! Tomorrow at lunch I think I'm going to ride her

Today I rode with Joan as a last "kick at the cat" before I move away. We both rode our baby girls (beauty and queenie)...started off with a w/t warm up in the indoor, then we head out across the street to the savory farm. it was the beast's second time hacking out over there this summer (joan took her earlier the year, but i think it was only a short walk because she was a bit of a freak!) - needless to say I expected to ride for 15 minutes and then have to walk back to the barn on foot! I was pleasantly surprised. The whole ride lasted for a bit over an hour, and beauty only spooked once. We were exploring some of the newer trails on the farm and Joanie went down a path I didnt want to attempt because of a river blocking the path (queenie went through it haha)...Beast and I didnt know there was a cat in the trees, and when Queenie left us the cat started moving around. Beauty had a minor freak out- jogging in a little tiny circle, backing up really fast and tossing her head. I panicked at first because I thought it was seperation anxiety or something, but then the cat came out where we could see it and Beauty settled down! all was good I'm really proud of my baby for having such a good ride today. It was really really awesome! lovelovelovelovelove Joan is going to be looking after her while I'm away, so I'm assuming she'll take over and make some updates on here - just so I can follow their progress!!
