Well, our first meeting was a huge success!! I am happy to say that we ran out of chairs, the attendance was so good.
Shannyn welcomed and thanked everyone for coming to the first meeting. She gave a brief over view of where she would like to see the club go. There is so much talent in Newfoundland and we are just as talented as the rest of the country and have some wonderfully talented horses, we just have geographical challenges that stand in our way. We CAN over come these. It may take a little extra work and dedication on our part, but it is possible.
Board Members were voted in.
President- Shannyn Lyras
Vice President- Sheila Anstey
Secretary- Katie Murray
Treasurer- John Downtown
Youth Representative- Marah Cahill
Directors- Lynn DeTurk, Anne Downton, Cheryl Hickman, Donna Humber, Tamsin Ford, Sheila Anstey and Pam (sorry Pam.. forgot your last name!)
Next Shannyn read several emails from clinicians, coaches and trainers who are willing to travel to NL to teach. Skill level were Grand Prix and International. Some of the volunteers have competed at the Pam Am Games, 2006 WEG... the list of credentials goes on. Very exciting!! As
We would like to aim for Provincial level shows. This is one step up from Primary. We are aiming high. Sheila Anstey has very kindly volunteered to travel to the mainland to be a come certified Steward in order for us to host Provincial level shows. We are in touch with Dressage Canada as we take on this venture as the rules and regulations are going to changle slightly for the 2008 show season. There is a possibility of holding a series of winter schooling shows as well.
Other clinics we would like to hold are Scribing clinics, show preparation for the dressage horse, judging... These types of clinics would be great to hold in the colder weather.
Dressage Arena. This arena will be available to rent for a fee of $100.00 to any facility that is NOT hosting a NADA sanctioned event. If the event you are holding is a NADA show, there will be no rental fee. A rental contract is being drawn up for those interested in renting.
There is a NADA website in the process. This website will host a forum that we expect to be used in a professional, adult manner. If any abuse occurs on this forum, it will be shut down.
Membership will be 25.00 to join NADA. Membership forms are being drawn up now as well.
We have a great NADA logo designed by Anne Downton. Club colours are going to be black and white. Cheryl Hickman has a contact for embroidering and we are looking into club clothing, possibly saddle pads, polos, blankets. Will have more info on this in the future.
Shannyn was in contact with Chris Gallant and NADA will be affilitated with the NEA. We are also researching insurance and possibly going with the same insurance company that the NEA uses.
The next scheduled meeting is August 26th at 3pm at Cheryl Hickmans' house.
That's it for now.
This club is going to be great. Any questions don't hesitate to email me. shannyn@nl.rogers.com
