As posted on www.newfoundlandpony.com/Message from Welsh Pony Breeder
I am a Welsh pony breeder (www.cwrtycadno.com) in Wales. I am considering continuing westwards by riding across Newfoundland in the Fall, 2013. I understand there are no restrictions on horses using the Trailway route from St John's to Port aux Basques.
Would it possible to acquire a Newfoundland pony or ponies for such a crossing? Do you think anyone would be willing to loan a pony/ponies, as a ride of this nature should be excellent promotion for the breed? Or would someone like to join forces with me? I reckon it would take no more than 3-4 weeks to cross Newfoundland, although I am always open to advice.
I would either need one pony with a back-up vehicle, or two ponies with one as a pack pony. If someone came along with me it would only need one other pony. I would very much appreciate thoughts/suggestions and useful contacts.
