I've seen alot of posts on here looking for trailering and was wondering if anyone had considered renting a trailer themselves and if so how much would be considered reasonable. I have a McBride two horse trailer that I'm thinking of renting if anyone is interested.

I asked about renting a trailer before and everyone thought it was such a bad idea because of insurance,if the trailer was damaged, ect. I myself how ever think its a good idea if you know what your getting into and it might be a good way to make some extra money. I think you should base your avg price on a certain distance and time they have the trailer (ie for the day or over night) and charge more for longer distance and time they have the trailer for. Good luck!

I don't see why the distance would effect cost, Emily. It's the truck that would be burning gas, not the trailer!
Someone interested in this would definitely have to look at potential insurance costs and be someone comfortable loading/unloading and driving with livestock. It's not the same as having a camping trailer hitched.

I think what Emily meens is that the longer the trailer is being used the more wear and tear on the trailer ie: brakes/tires/suspension. The person would most definatly have to have experience with hauling a trailer. I would do it in a heart beat if I had a trailer. I would also be asking for a damage deposit untill returned.

When I lived in NS there was a trailer leasing service, I wish I could remember the cost of it, but it was so long ago ;P I think you need to have a LEGAL contract (just because you sign something doesn't always make it legal) so you might want to look into a proper legal contract that states your cost and if there is any damage that you are to be reimbursed the cost of repair. As for charging for distance etc. I think that could be a hard one only because we do live in NL and you have to travel great distances to get anywhere. I think you could charge a flat fee for the day(s) it will be used. I also think that if someone only needed it for a few hours you could probably come up with a price for say half a day, I don't think you'd want to get into trying to come up with a price for couple of hours. A damage deposit is a must, and would help deter people from possibly abusing your trailer. You should also walk around your trailer and have previous (and up to date) . photos of it's condition so that no one can disput that it was already there A walk around the trailer with the person renting your trailer is a good idea to then you can both agree on the state of the trailer (the same thing they do at car rental places). You should also talk to your insurance provider and make sure you have the proper amount of insurance on your trailer. Last very important thing is to make sure your trailer is ALWAYS in great shape, tires, breaks etc. To me $100 or more a day is a reasonable amount to charge, plus deposit

Would you be interested in hauling a horse instead of renting the trailer out?

Sorry, 1234, but I don't have any experience hauling a trailer and my husband is working so he's out of the question too.
