I watched some of the other CA videos along with this one. Reminds me a lot of Parelli. Lots of similar exercises although a different name.
The clinic looked like it was fun and the participants looked to really enjoy themselves!

Neat, (being english) I liked the pictures of the cross country jumps, can I ask why you guys practiced that at a western clinic? Was it just for the exposure and stuff for the horses? It seems like an interesting way to start horses over cross country as well, to get them used to the sights and the jumps without a (possibly nervous) rider.

The point of the obstacle course was to give you and your horse a more interesting training experience. The course was designed by the same person who does Rolex/cross country. You lunge/cue your horse and a jump just happens to be in the way. A big test of if your horse will trust and respect your cues going over scary jumps, down ditches, thru water. This stuff was all new to our horses and it was amazing to see how athletic they really are! All of CAs training/clinics are meant for any discipline and we had barrel racers, Arabian endurance horses, jumpers, rodeo, reiners, trail riders, Tennessee walkers, all in our clinic. He stresses a safe ride with a willing partner. Nothing particular western about that!

He stresses a safe ride with a willing partner. Nothing particular western about that! I don't think she meant it like that. If I didn't know who he was, I'd assume western too. After all, if you glance at his webpage, he is wearing a cowboy hat while riding in a western saddle, sells his own western saddle and tack, etc.

And I didn't take it "like that". Glad you enjoyed our slideshow Maria! ;D

Thanks Steph, I did think Clint Anderson was primarily western, so I apologize. However I just thought the o/f part was interesting. I like the idea of having your horse trust you enough to do that, it would make for a much nicer and safe ride. Knowing this I might consider doing one of his clinics, over X-country fences, if the opportunity ever presented itself! I know it would help me with my confidence over more solid fences as well by seeing Connor do it from the ground first. Actually the more I think about, the more I wish I was in that position!

Maria- You should pick up a fundamentals kit! its allot of information and a DIY program. for the amount you would spend in lessons ($800) you can get it for (399) (well, my price ) and get to keep the material and go back to constantly reference it! there is a intermediate and advanced kit as well, so you get super refind with your riding & ground work.

Cindy, is there a particular reason you took Katrina's horse to the clinic? You are such an advocate for CA I was surprised when I learned you didn't take your own horse. He's a lovely boy, I hope he wasn't sick or lame.
