I have a couple questions.
1. Is there any way you can do both in province and out? My situation has changed a bit, me being here in NL and my horse is NS. I may not be able to guarantee 2 shows in NS, what with my clinical placement at the hospital in NL (hopefully haha). Can you do one show here and one show out of province, I guess is my question.
2. If I make it and decide to go, I'm planning on renting on another horse up in Bromont. It's a LOT less planning, I've thought about it and that's the easiest option on me, as a rider's, part. I can't afford any more time to get my own horse trailered, settled there, and back home to FEC and be back in NL for school/work. So do I still have to say what horse I'm riding, for the declaration form I mean?
3. In relation to the last question, if I do shows in NL, right now I don't know what horse I will be riding. Hopefully I can catch ride, or rent a horse for a few classes, but I don't have the names at this point.
Thanks!

Good questions Maria. I'd say you'll have an idea of who you'll be riding soon if in NL, so your best bet it to complete two declaration forms (one for Connor & one for your other mount) as points are tabulated on horse / rider combo, not individual basis as some people are riding two horses this season.

And one of the options is to rent a horse for the CEC in Bromont, that is a separate show form on its own as far as I'm aware.
We are hoping to hold a CEC information meeting for everyone that completes the declaration forms June 15th

So I need to put a horse's name on the declaration form that is due in 2 weeks? Also at what date do I need to fill out the form for the rental of a horse?

Yes, a horse would need to be named on the forms. I believe the rental horse forms come out same time the Bromont show forms do, but not 100% on that one. I will get back to you with conformation.

Would there be any benefit of trying to filling out multiple forms and trying qualify with 2 (or possibly 3) horses? Or does it not really make much of a difference?
Edited to clarify: Not actually trying to bring these horses to Bromont with me, just using them in my classes to gain points.

It's completely up to you, as points are tabulated on a horse / rider combo, not just the rider. So if you and Rudy gets 5 points the show season and you and connor gets 9, you wouldn't have 14 points total you'd have points each. You have the option to rent a horse for $1200 if you have been chosen for the team or take the horse you qualified on. On a seperate note talking to the NS board yesterday they said horses were really well matched, so people should really consider that option.

Ok, thanks Becca, you've been really helpful I agree with the horses being well matched. I know some people here last year were worried about riding a random horse, but everyone from the provinces who rented horses (dressage, reining AND jumping) all had only good things to say about them. On a safety note they were all very well behaved and not spooky at all. I was pleased with my mount, and this was a 6 year old who's first show it was that season!

Just to add on about the renting horse thing, the reining champion (either gold or silver can't remember) was on the NS team, and was on a rented horse!

So how does that work? Renting a horse I mean? Do you try horses out and then do a daily lease type thing?

No. As long as it hasn't changed from last year, this is how it goes. You send in your size, how tall you are, weight and whatnot and they will assign a horse to you. People and barns in Quebec will trailer their horses there, give you tack, brushes, hay, grain, etc. everything you need pretty much (at least that's what Julie did, for Brio the horse I rode, and her other horse, who a guy from Saskatchewan rode). I brought my own braiding supplies, but she had even provided me with that too.
I rode Bri twice before show day and then went in the ring. I had a practice with his owner on Thursday, and I rode him on my own Friday. She left him in my hands, up until the time she came to trailer him home and pack everything away at the end of the show. A few coaches from other provinces gave me a couple pointers on Friday, but for the most part I just spent the time riding on my own and figuring him out. It wasn't a big deal for me, but to do this you do need to be comfortable riding other horses.
This is part of the reason why it is SO much easier to rent a horse! I'm not on the committee this year however, this is just going by my experience I had last year!

I understand that NEA numbers haven't been issued yet, if your forms have been sent in by 15th you can write "pending" for your NEA number.
