Hey, I thought of starting this thread to update with news from the NEA that will also be posted on Facebook and the website. Will a Mod sticky this please The NEA is looking for volunteers for the 2012 Canadian Equestrian Championships that will be held late September in Bromont, Quebec. If you would like to help on this Committee, especially with fundraising so that we can send our riders to the Championships, it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Kathie Lane at kathielane@gmail.com. The NEA is also looking for any affiliates who want to hold qualifying classes for the Championships in the following disciplines; Jumping (1.10m), Reining, and Dressage (1st Level). Please contact Gertie at Gertie.Ryan-Kavanagh@huskyenergy.com During the Annual Equine Canada meetings held in St. John's last week, the services agreement was signed with all provinces and the NEA is a member of Equine Canada once again.

What does the NEA being a member of EC again mean for us? In my head that sounds so snotty but its not meant to be! I'm just wondering if it makes any changes associated with the change.
And what kind of volunteering is needed for the CEC's?

Hopefully a lot of people will try to qualify this year Haha! We need both Jr. and Sr. riders!!!!!
Volunteering for now is mostly in the Fundraising Category as it is going to be ridiculously expensive to show in Bromont, Quebec!

On a side note, when midterm crazyness is over I'll be posting on the website about what rejoining EC means. But as a tidbit, by being an NEA member we get a discount on EC sport licenses!

Agreed with Jess, hopefully a lot more people try out this year. If I can send a video, or get a recommendation letter or something (because I can't trailer Connor back just for tryouts) I will be planning on competing again for NL. If that is not possible I will be trying out for the NS team. Although NL is my first choice!
Also, I know there was some confusion last year, but you don't absolutely NEED jr and sr riders. I went solo, and I just wasn't included in the 'team" competition. Individual it was fine.
Another thing is usually businesses like to know how many people are on the Nl equestrian team and where their money is going. That's part of the reason I wasn't able to find more sponsors and things was because I couldn't go to an owner and say that 3 people were going, and then end up having only 1! So, I think fundraisers would be great, but when we start doing media coverage and sponsers we really do need a definite team of who's competing. Therefore my suggestion would be to have the qualifiers early enough that there is time for that.

^^ Agree. When we were doing the Atlantic Coast Games[god--1991], we short listed the year before...ie 6 per team with 4 definately going. That allowed for illness, lameness and life interferance. We had a final qualifier in the early spring.. that clinched the final team members. Sponsors were given a short bio of the rider & horse combos that had qualified. I think that they were given a choice of which 4 member team they preferred to sponsor, but I could be wrong about that...I was too busy riding ! NL, by the way, had Team Gold in Dressage, and individual silver...also dressage. Pony Club jumpers did well also....and some on borrowed horses. We sent a distance rider and western riders too. NL was happenin' back then...there'd be 20+ horses in the classes...those were the days!

Its nice to see people psyched up about showing etc., but what about people who don't show and enjoy recreational riding? Anything planned for them?

Have you paid your NEA Membership yet? If not it is definitely worthwhile! The NEA would like to make you aware of Membership policies and some recent changes! Starting in 2012 the NEA is adopting a new membership numbering system. All cards will start with the last two digits of the current year followed by the sequential number e.g 12-xxx. Membership in the NEA and insurance coverage included with the membership will not be valid until the NEA has received your application and you get confirmation that the application has been received. E.g e-mail, membership card, etc. Addionally, NEA insurance coverage is only valid Jan-Dec of the current year; regardless of when application/payment is received. The following are some benefits of having membership $5,000,000 Personal Liability Insurance Coverage $25,000 Accidental Death & Dismemberment Discount on Equine Canada Sport Licenses And Much More!!! Visit our website at www.equestriannl.ca to get more information on our membership!

The reason we no longer have permanent numbers is to ensure that there is no confusion with the numbers and that others who use the information can easily tell whether you are current or not. Additionally as the board is elected into volunteer positions it ensures that the information for numbering systems is easier to understand and can be passed over easier.
