Makes sense! I didn't know there was an individual competition, I thought it was only a team thing.

No worries Krys! You know more about the jumping things in Nl then then I do. I completely agree with what you said. There is more then just the height-allready I've seen the rings and not only is everything going on side by side simultaneously, but I saw a water jump, and they hadn't even set anything else up yet! I can only imagine what kind of tricks they have for the jumper courses. And Shelly, I can see how you would think that-it is more of a team thing, you have to really dig deep and talk to people to find out what is and isn't allowed.

Congrats Maria.. Hope you have an awesome time!! I agree completely with Krys. Teezer and myself can do 3ft6, But we are not ready to compete at that level in quebec just yet. That is why I never bothered to try out for it! I hope the experience is awesome!

The Reiners had to qualify by showing at several different shows.. At least for NS. They had to have a minimum score of 68 if I recall correctly. I may have this mixed up with another event that is taking place in KY.
Two of the reiners representing Nova Scotia ride at the same barn as me.. They actually just left for Quebec at 4. And all four reiners that are representing Nova Scotia are by the same Stallion. Thought that was kind of neat.

Because the show scene is so small in NL anyone interested in being considered for one of the teams only needed to compete (and perform well enough) in one show. No one expressed any interest in reining to the NEA, though I think Katrina said she would have if she'd had Peanut in time. I hope all goes well this year and they hold the event again next year as I'm quite sure there is going to be a lot more interest then.

There hasn't been one entry form that has offered a reining class this year either. How Many dressage shows were there this year anyways? I can only recall the one.
Not only the opportunity scale of it, If you want to rent a horse up there you best have been jumping at least 4-5 different horses 3'6- 4'0 With all different types of attributes ( ex. Hot blooded, forward, coldblooded, responsive, lazy ) then just being able to ride your own horse (unless able to take him of coarse) .. It's not like we have multiple barns with school horses able to practice on.
I am just happy we are finally included in the whole shebang. Hopefully next year it will still be around, better organized , more information given about it, and more opportunities to qualify.
Charismatic: Is Morgan Bezanson going up from NS? Just something I heard from the rumor mill in the Valley.. Although whiskey is from your barn isn't he?

I know several people planning to try for dressage and even jumping for next year. Hopefully there will be more opportunities to actually show at the required levels so people can get the necessary experience.

One thing people really need to remember is the fact that there aren't really any horses that qualify for this level of competition. As much as I would have loved to bring Connor, I know he isn't ready for this type of thing and I would have a better chance with Bri (the warmblood I'm showing).
I have ridden a dozen horses and ponies over this summer to try and get ready for the CEC. The qualifiers for dressage were based on a ride in front of Mary Lew (I had just come back from vacation at 4:00 that morning and hadn't ridden for a week) and the dressage show-I showed both my horse and a pony I had been working with, AND did the clinic on another horse that I was riding for her owner. This way not only did the judge/clinician see that I could show dressage BUT also that I was adaptable on different horses. That was something I wanted her to see, plus I made sure that fact was mentioned in my recommendation letter that Lynn de Turk wrote for me.
Catch riding is a skill in amongst itself!

MARIA Right there with you on the catch riding..
BECCA Yes Morgan is going.. Whiskey was originally at Redwood I think. Cannot recall who owned his Dam Jolee Dry, and then he moved on to someone else who then sold him to the valley two years ago. this week actually.
All four reiners are by Jays Flashy Jac.. No longer standing at stud.

I wouldn't say that no horses are qualified to go but the trailer ride to quebec would be long and tiring. As Cabbie qualified but is close on 16 I wouldn't put him through the trailer ride. I am hoping that raven will be far enough along next year to go up!

I am hoping that raven will be far enough along next year to go up! Yes, there are horses here capable of doing some of these events, as well as those who could be capable with a bit more work. (Sorry, huge pet peeve of mine stemming from multiple occasions when certain people have blamed the horses in NL for not being good enough as the reason why they aren't better riders. ) But when you add up trailering expenses it's cheaper to rent a horse already there. Unless the rider/owner is willing to pay out of pocket to help with the expense you can't really expect the NEA to pay say $2000 to trailer a horse up and back if they could rent a suitable horse for $1000.
