Rode Czar this morning and he was AMAZING! We worked on a lot of things we need to for the shows in GF! (collection and extension in trot and canter and walk-canter-walk transitions). He was SUCH a good boy and he's being soso soft and responsive to my leg. He's an angeeeel

Czar and I showed in the GFW shows this past weekend! He was AMAZING. I love my horse. Now, don't get me wrong, we certainly weren't perfect but he's sound and we competed in everything we wanted to with no issues (hunter, eq and flats). We took home some great placings too so we obviously weren't too terrible haha.
I also had a lesson today! We worked on me really. Making me realize I have to sit up and actually ride in between the fences of a measured line haha. Czar and I did so good with it. I really showed him where to go and what spot to take, I'm proud of both of us.
Can't wait to ride tomorrow!

who needs to study for exams when you can write about your pony??
Czar is doing fantastic. He's gained a lot of weight (might be a little fat now haha). This weekend past he was in another clinic with Angela Covert-Lawrence. He did fantastic again.
We'll just update on today. I've decided to stop riding in spurs for a while since it's pretty much winter and I figure why not strengthen my leg. He's been doing great. He's really responding to clucks so if he ever gets a little dead, I just cluck once and he steps right up. Tonight we worked on lengthening and really using his back. For his back we did some leg yields and some shoulder in. And long and low (well.. lowish). The trot I had by the end of my ride was AMAZING and my goal is to find that trot every time I ride and try to keep it. Our indoor isn't very big so hopefully the outdoor stops being so soggy and I can start riding out there again.
Once Christmas is over Czar and I will be into a lesson program with Danica. I kind of didn't keep up on my lessons once school started but that's going to change next semester.

rode again tonight and worked on keeping him straight. He's using the wall as a guide and really bulging to the outside so I rode the quarter line all night and did lots of circles. Also did LOTS of extension and collection at the trot and a little at the canter. Its hard to extend at the canter though because there isn't much room and the back end is still a little deep from all the rain when had.
Towards the end of my ride again I let him really stretch down and into the contact. He really lifts his back doing it so I moved him up to the canter this time too and it felt great. The plan this winter is for me to strengthen my leg and to really get a nice top line on Czar.

Had my last ride on Czar before going home for Christmas and he was AMAZING. When I went to go ride, Mark was leaving the indoor with Taber so I decided it would be great to lunge Czar before I rode. I kept the door open so he can just get used to it both ways (I usually close it when I ride). Then after a little bit of him being a nut case, I got on and rode with Heather and her mare Evora. We pretty much worked on a lot of stuff. Started off really getting him moving off my leg and I worked on not touching his face like at all. I really got him stretching over and through his back. It was lovely. Then I worked on canter transitions and some collection and extension at trot and canter. Then we jumped a little cavaletti a few times just for fun Then Katie and Barrington came in so three big horses in one little indoor was a lot so I worked on more trot work. Did lots of leg yeilding and then moved onto some shoulder in. He really didn't know what I was asking but he tried his little heart out and did well towards then end. He was also moving off my outside leg SO much better than he was the last time I rode him which is lovely. I also realized that it's probably due to the fact that I don't put as much weight down my right leg when on the left rein so I have to work on not twisting my body so much. Can't wait to ride again when I come back from Christmas break. We're going to be put into a real lesson program. I'm excited.

so lessons have started!!!! Yay.
lesson 1: We worked on collections and extensions (obviously!) and some no stirrup work. From there we did lots of square turns and really keeping him forward into the turns and moving off my leg when I ask. Then we did lots of lots of transitions. 10 trot steps, 10 canter steps. Over and over. Really got him listening. Then we set up a gymnastic. Three bounces. We worked on trotting in and NOT trying to time the first jump, just being ready to follow and staying with him through the exercise. I hadn't jumped since the Angie clinic pretty much which was in October so I was a bit rusty.
Lesson two: Warmed up on my own and waited for Danica. When she got there we worked on moving into the corners, making square turns again. Then collections and extensions at the trot. Keeping a nice steady upper body and a light seat. Then we moved up to canter and did just some balancing and then 10 collection strides followed by 10 extended strides. Really focusing on LEG first. Then we started jumping on a circle making sure not to straighten so instead of changing his stride we would either move in or out for the distance needed. It took some getting used to but I got the swing of it. It really helped me adjust only one stride out because I had no choice. Then a gymnastic was set up again. It was just a x to a one stride (which got bigger throughout the ride). I just worked on keeping the same canter in and keeping my hands up and staying with him. I have a tendency to drop my hands last minute which makes me round my back and gets me left behind just enough to land before he does. But I really got the hang of it by the end of my ride!
lesson 3 saturday!
