rode again today, we did same stuff as before w/t giving and bending, stoping, backing up, all that fun stuff. He was great for everything, except at the trot he was being resistant with giving, but he was doing well at first, it seemed very odd to me because he understands what I ask of him, I thought maybe he was getting his wolf teeth in, or that maybe he was sore for some reason, but I would have thought he would be resistant to trot as well.
he was being a bit of a pain, ducking to the inside in one spot, which I discovered later was because of some rope that was hanging/lying on the ground.. I also discovered this because he spooked at it and of course took off for a few strides and then ducked sideways, and over his shoulder I tumbled, FUUNNN. lol. So after I got up I brought him over to it and rubbed it all over his face and shook/flung it about until he was chilled out. Then I got back on and did some more walk/trot for about 5 mins and called it a day.
I checked his teeth after I untacked and everything looks fine, no wolf teeth in yet. He didn't seem to be sore when I was ridding, nothing that I noticed, we'll just have to see over the next few days.

today we did some more walk/trot work, with lots of trotting and went for a little ride again as well.
it took about 5-10 mins for him to get his sillies out and get into a nice easy jog and to give to the bit, it was quite windy out today so it made him antsy for the first part.. we worked on trotting circles in both directions and backing up of course, turning and bending... tomorrow I'm going to try and bring out some poles to start trotting.
after that I stopped to help Penny out with Bess till she was able to get her around twice without having her trying to break.

Today I trimmed the ponies feet, now I don't want to move. lol
after that was completed I lunged Benson for a half hour.. I kept it at w/t because mom got mad, I was doing it on the lawn and he tore up the grass when I loped him lol. Anyway so we did lots of trotting, he was being a tit at first, breaking to a walk after going around a few times, but once I got after him he gave up, he did really well with stopping and picking up the pace at walk and trot, as well as slowing.
after that I re introduced the hose to him, you wouldn't know if hes never seen one before, I didn't actually get to hose him, I just let him get comfortable with the water spraying by him.. he was getting quite fed up with all the flies as well, poor fella.
we are now officially going on a nice working schedule of 5 times a week, weather depending of course.

Since the last time I've written hes been ridden, Saturday I got penny to ride him.. lets just say that was a good teaching experience.. He wasn't listening well to her, because 1- she didn't ask him to give properly and 2- she didn't keep her legs on him, at the trot He would keep ducking to the center in one spot so automatically her heels would come up and she'd squeeze her legs, forgetting about directing him.. it took her a few gos around to get him to stay straight, all she needed was to apply more pressure with her inside leg. After that I got on him just so he wouldn't be confused for life.. he was giving at the trot well and bending.. I even had him loping a little.
Sunday I lunged him at walk/trot, it very went well, but I attempted to get him to lope, in which he would go a few strides and then start being a pig and hauling on the line and having a little fit, it was very frustrating but it was becoming quite dark, and I hadn't had him going in the other direction so I let him have that one, and today I'll try again until he behaves..
yesterday I didn't get to do anything with him, I was fencing all afternoon.

yesterday I lunged him.. w/t AND lope. he was really great, and stopped on a dime when asked.. picked up speed and slowed at walk/trot when asked, he didn't do so well at the lope on his "left" side, he broke to the trot a couple times, but in the other direction he didn't at all and no struggling..before he usually hauled on the line a bit.. after he went around a couple times I figured that we'd better end it at a good note, so I did and gave him lots of praise.

today I had a wonderful ride, it was sunny, not windy and no flies and he was very pleasant. we did giving to the bit at the walk and jog, he was really supple and kept his head down.. we mixed it up between a nice pleasure jog and a strong trot to get him really working, lots of switching directions and trotting circles until he was doing it in both directions with ease. after he was going really good I got him going at the lope, and we did lots of loping.. he transitions to the lope really well now, as soon as I ask..at first he was a little wonky, but I take full blame because I was trying to feel him out instead of keeping him collected.. it was great, he was going at a really smooth easy lope, Just a little contact on his mouth and keeping my seat deep kept him at a good pace and not too rushy, I broke up going around every few times with some more walking and trotting. and then back to loping again, in both directions, he was quite sweaty when I decided that he had been great and deserved a break. As well I worked on his neck reining and hes getting pretty good at it, only sometimes do I have to remind him by a little bump with my inside rein. Maybe someone will be graduating to a shank soon?

had another great ride today, yesterday I rode as well, but not for long and only at walk/trot because my brother was having some issues with Bess that I had to help him with.
Today we did everything as in my previous post, but our ride wasn't as long because soon the flies got really maggoty, but in this time he was a superstar. I also started re introducing the hose to him again, this will take some time to do, along with him being a tad frightened he also wants to be left alone to eat so he was being quite the pig, so it took some time for him to stand and not try to squirm or back up, today I got so far as being able to rub the hose over his face with a bit of water coming out and spraying it next to him, I'm in no rush so well take baby steps.

yesterday my friend and I took the horses for a trail, about 8 km in total.. it was very fun and we came across lots of things that I thought benson might be a little worried about but he handled it all well, a brook, a ditch, some deep mud and really uneven narrow pathways. I would have expected him to try to rush past it all but he took his time and picked his way through with no refusing at all. We did quite a bit of galloping to really let him get his legs stretched out.. It was a really pleasant ride.

I lunged the boy last night, long periods of walk and trot both direction, I wanted to see how long hed go before he would think its ok to stop, but he didn't lol. Good boy knows only when I say so. We only did a bit of loping because it got too dark.. I had planned to do some ridding work today but the goddamn flies where out. ugh, we are so staying in truro next year, we're missing out on soo much ridding time because of the weather here, its so unreal.

the last few days I've been doing groundwork with him and some "bombproofing", returning back to the basics. He's much more responsive than the last time I did leading excersizes with him. Yesterday I gave my two little cousins from AB pony rides, they adored him. Today I went on a little trail.

I've just been going on trails with him lately, other than lunging and ground work, hes been very enjoyable.
yesterday I lunged him for a bit and he was great, then I went on a little trail and he was also very good. When on trail rides he really likes to go, his trot and lope is so much faster and I have to try to keep him back, but doing arena work he's got a nice slow jog, and a pretty decent lope. LOL just something I discovered.

Just thought I'd post that we made the journey back to Cormack yesterday, after some stalling. He was very excited to be back and Marquee knew him instantly and protected him from Legend kicking up a stink. He will be taking off to Truro in about two weeks
