I'm bored because there isn't much to do up here when I am not working or riding, so I am going to write out my lessons in here (plus I can use them on Champ when I get home!!)
Last weeks lesson:
We always warm up prior to the lesson with posting trot, sitting trot, trot in 2 point, canter, posting canter, and canter in 2 point. Then we change direction and do the same. 20 m circles are not even a part of their vocab there, I've never been asked to do one.
The horse I ride is Freddy, he's a large warmblood type chestnut gelding. He competes at Spruce Meadows at all the lower level shows like Pony Club and the Spring Classic.
So last week we warmed up over a vertical, a line (5 strides), and a set of cavaletti's. Jodi (my instructor) told me my leg isn't swinging anymore and is quite solid!! Next we did a vertical, than a big right turn to a line (4 stride to a 3 stride, with 2 verticals and an oxer). Then a big right turn over a bounce (2 cavaletti's) across the ring, then a big turn over a double oxer and a roll back to a vertical, than a big left turn and back over the vertical with a broken line and finishing off with the third jump in the line.
This week:
We did a more challenging course with 2 broken lines, a bounce, and a triple oxer. We also had a grid with a pole, stride, crossrail, 2 strides, vertical, three strides, double oxer. We had a five stride, two jump line where we had to gallop through and get 4 strides once, and the second time collect and get 6! However, this time I have an interesting story:
I seem to jump the gun on turning, and at the bounce I turned too fast and came in too slow. Freddy tripped in the first jump, bailed on the second, and my good old SAFETY STIRRUPS collapsed and I fell onto Freddy's neck, who let me slide down and land PARALLEL on the cavaletti. So I am lying with my spine along the pole, my head cradled in the X on one side, and my arms and legs hanging down on each side. Of course since they do not fall apart, I was unable to get OFF the pole. The coach had to help me off- the kids said it was the "coolest" time they ever seen anyone fall off.
