Danielle, you might want to remember to give credit to the author of the articles when you post them.

I'm re-posting my post because I didn't finish it. I know this from ALOT of experiance with it, when your horse is afraid of something, DO NOT GET OFF, even to move it! Walk over to it, and halt, then talk to Blaze and tell him that it's alright, sing a song to him, give him a pat! If he doesn't want to go to close to it, just walk near it. After he's calmed down enough, walk him around and do the same to any other "scary things". If he starts to flip out when you're trying to reassure him, get off and walk him to it. Also, free lunging him before you ride is a very good idea, it get's his sillies out and he can go examine the scary stuff BEFORE you ride! Remember when you free lunge to not get scared, Blaze isn't stupid enough to run you over! When he's a good boy, give him lots of treats! If he's really lazy, try carrying a crop. Usually you do not even have to tap them with it, you just have to carry it and they know you mean buisness. If he's still being a lazy bum, give him a small tap on his bum, and when you get a reaction from him (i.e. ears flickering or him moveing his head up) ask him for a trot. Make sure you aren't pulling your reins when your trotting, it's a common mistake we all make, but it slows them down and jerks the bit around. If he's not very good at small circles, make sure he's not sore or anything as Mel said, and trot big circles first, and then do walk on some small circles, and then carry your crop and ask for a trot on a small circle. Good Luck!
