Long time no post. Gunner's been doing great since the last time I updated, we've done a few clinics, a schooling show or two and he's tried his heart out for me. We haven't done much beside the occasional trail since the snow came because it's just been too icy. He's now solid on the road, got over his motorcycle issues. We did a lesson with Syl on Saturday morning, and for not having really been schooled since November, he did great. We started out with an exercise for moving the hip, and after a couple tries he really made an effort, we got a few nice cross-over steps behind. Then we worked on a neck reining exercise.
When it comes to spins/TOH I just want to hold him together and pull him around, so I really needed to work on leaving his face alone and just correcting when the need arose and going back to the neck rein. He's sticky and loses his impulsion once he starts turning, undoubtedly because of my tendency to want to hold him, and so we worked on getting him actually *moving* off the rein and keeping forward when he did it. Couple of corrections and he started getting really light and catty, it was really nice. Other than that, he's gotten real nice and consistent in his gaits, especially noticable in his jog, he's nice and soft in the face and he stops and backs off my seat. I'm looking forward to getting him back in work and putting sliders on him this summer.

Ok, I wasn't gonna do it, but I couldn't resist, cause I'm just so proud of my little reining-reject.. And for the record, no, he didn't just lose his balance and slip like a goon.
