I haven't updated this lately.. Today Nick made HUGE progress! Shannyn and JF were kind enough to hook up their trailer and help me practice trailering him before the show. It is a 3 horse slant load, nice and big . They took out the second divider so Nick could have the front two spots all to himself. In case anyone didn't know, he is a very chlosterphobic(sp?) horse and does not like to be confined. He will travel down to Clovelly like that with Reilly in the 3rd spot in the back. We started practicing around grain time so I used his grain to entice him onto the trailer. He was stepping on and off the ramp then he would get his front feet on and back off again. Finally he walked on and we went right to the front of the trailer where JF had the windows open and the front door unlatched incase he freaked out, I could get out quick. Shannyn closed the divider behind him, but didn't latch it incase he got scared she could open it quick. He was a superstar! Stood there, ate half of his grain and some sweetfeed that helped ALOT getting him on. He likes Sweetfeed more then Extruded ! We then truned him around and halted in the trailer, then walked off. He got LOADS of praise for that and I let him munch on some grass for a minute to two. Then we did it again. This time with hardly any hesitation! Once he got a taste of that sweetfeed he went right on after it. We went to the front and again, Shannyn closed the divider. JF was up front outside the trailer. He closed the windows and even when the wind blew the back door shut with a fair bit of noise, he stayed calm! Once again I turned him around and halted him inside the trailer then walked him off. Again, with lots of praise! It only took us about 20 mins to do all of this ! We went for a graze on the field next to the barn. I let him eat for about 15 mintues then brought him back to the barn, turned him out and let him finish his dinner outside. We are going to practice trailering him once more before the show and then finally show morning he will hopefully load well!

Well, I just got home from the spring show. Nick was really good today! He wasn't perfect and had his moments but over all I am very pleased. This morning we went to the barn bright and early, loaded the horses with hardly any trouble. We put Reilly in front and tryed to load Nick in the back, but Nick decided the front was a better spot for him, lol. So we took Reilly off and put Nick in the front and put Reilly in the back, then off we went to Clovelly. Our first class he refused the first jump but it was complete rider error. I looked right at the jump. We got 4th in that class(Hunter #1), 3rd in our second class(Hunter #2) then 2nd in the Jumper ! We never placed in our u/s class because he spooked and I almost came off Meh, its all you can do, hah. Over all the trailering was the best part he was SO well behaved and stood fairly calm and waited for Reilly to load.
