If anyone in your family is handy with a hammer and nail, you can get some plywood and make one yourself. My poppy made mine for me last year and stained it and put gold hardware on it and everything Too bad I dont have it anymore

Yeah- mine was also handmade... the bonus about having one made is that you can pick and choose how you want it set up - the things you want to suit your needs.

I dont know how much you intend to spend on a tackbox...but you could hire someone to make it for you. Thats what my dad did. I dont remember the name of the guy who did it (I can get it for you tho..just let me know) and he did an AMAZING job. All we did was give him some rough plans that I had drawn up myself- I put in measurements and all the little details and such, we gave it to him, and he called us back when it was finished. My tack box cost $500. It is about 4ft, plus a couple inches because it is on wheels to make it easy to move. It is (and I'm guessing now because I dont remember) 2ft wide and 2ft deep. I have a rack for saddle pads going across the back of it (I dont keep my saddle in it, but you could modify it so that a saddle could fit inside), there is a large shelf which is moveable (up and down), and below that there are 2 pull out drawers which are 1'wide x 2'deep. I also had 3 hooks put on the inside, and matching hardware on the outside of the box. The price also depends on the type of wood you use. Mine is made with a really nice plywood (I dont remember the actual name), but it doesnt look like that "particle board plywood" you probably think when you hear 'plywood' I'll take a picture of it if you want me too.

Haha gill sounds like you got ripped off a little... My father made mine for under $100 and it's one of the most beautiful tack boxes I have ever seen.

wow thats really pretty. see i dont mind paying someone to make mine (like someone elses dad because mine is usless:P) but im not paying 500 for it. it would be hard going to 100 for it. unless my parents paid for it (which i doubt)

I wouldnt be caught dead paying $500 for a wooden box Dont care if the Pope himself made it The one I had only cost $100 to make, and that included stain and hardware.

I think my dad made mine for about 50. Its not that big but its prefect for what I need it for and I love it. He even put Zams name into it with a different colour wood. How cute

Sarah P, your tackbox is super nice! My dad and his friend made my tackbox for me less then a month ago, and I've managed to mess up the doors already Kayla, I know Clovelly had some spare sit down tack boxes for the longest time. I'm not sure if they still do, but if you wanted a tack box soon, it's worth asking them about. If they had any extra they might sell you one, and I don't think they would charge you an arm and a leg

Sarah, I would say the price difference is probably due to the fact that your dad made yours whereas we paid someone for his time, as well as all the materials and what not. Either way it doesnt really make a difference to me, as my parents paid for it as a present ...too bad its starting to get to be a bit small. Jeez. When I actually own a horse I'm going to need one hell of a tack box. My favorite tack box of all time is Zandi Dwyer's old one thats out at clovelly...it's like, 6' high and 4' wide and the most stunningly attractive thing ever
