I received this email today from CBS re the Heartland Series. Thought some of you may be interested. Dear Ms. Story, I thought I would take a moment to share some information on a new program that may be of interest to you, your colleagues and clients. Heartland is new family drama premiering on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at 7 pm (7:30 NT) on CBC Television. HEARTLAND is a multi-generational one-hour family drama series set in the fictional town of Hudson, located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains of Alberta. It*s a place like no other; a horse ranch with a special mission: healing abused or neglected horses. Meanwhile, the series follows the Fleming family: 15-year-old Amy, her older sister Lou, and Grandpa Jack, as they deal with the challenges of running a ranch that*s been in the family for generations but is now so deep in debt they*re one bank payment away from losing it all. After the sudden death of their mother, the girls* lives change forever. Amy realizes she has inherited her mother*s special horse-whispering gift and is determined to keep her mother*s dream alive by helping Heartland thrive. Lou reluctantly returns home from her high-powered job in New York to take over the business of the ranch - but this is not what she planned for her life. Jack - well, he just wants to keep the peace. This will prove difficult when the girls* estranged father Tim returns to Heartland looking to reconnect with his daughters. Thrown into this mix is Ty, the handsome new stable boy with a tragic past; Mallory, the precocious 11-year-old girl next door who has an answer for every question and makes Heartland her second home; and Scott, the local Native Canadian vet who had a thing for Lou back in high school - and maybe still does. Heartland is based on the best-selling series of novels by Lauren Brooke, with over 6.5 million copies sold worldwide. The cast includes Amber Marshall (The Elizabeth Smart Story) as Amy, Chris Potter (Law & Order: SVU, Sex Traffic) as Tim, Michelle Morgan, Graham Wardle (In the Land of Women), Shaun Johnston (Waking Up Wally: The Walter Gretzky Story) and Nathaniel Arcand (North of 60, Grey Owl). And just as important are the horses that appear in Heartland: SPARTAN, the gorgeous 5year old Thoroughbred stallion injured in the accident that killed Amy's mother as she tried to rescue him from an abusive owner. Amy and Spartan have a lot in common: they*re both emotionally fragile and afraid to be hurt again. Throughout the first season, Spartan and Amy develop a strong emotional bond as she nurtures him back to health and retrains him to be the promising show jumper he once was. SUNDANCE: Amy*s 20-year-old buckskin Quarter Horse/Thoroughbred cross gelding with an exceptional talent for jumping. PEGASUS: Amy*s mother nurtured this 17-year-old Thoroughbred/Warmblood cross back to health and now he excels at dressage - but he*s suffering from the loss of his rescuer. JASMINE, an 8-year-old gray Arabian mare, set to be destroyed until the Heartland team rescued her, and thanks for vet Scott*s natural remedies, she*s fully sound. COPPER, a beautiful bay who*s Mallory's chosen favorite; and RED, a talented chestnut Hanoverian cross, for whom the team has champion-size ambitions.
