Cache Rapids Stable in Reidville is pleased to host two Equestrian Information Seminars with Clinician, Dennis Mahoney. Dennis is a successful hunter/jumper trainer and coach from Gagetown, NB and has trained and managed high-level hunters and jumpers at horse shows across Canada and the US. His most recent experiences include being the stable manager of Gingerwood Farm in Stanhope, PEI, the largest equine boarding and outdoor show facility east of Quebec where he was responsible for training and management of 32 horses.
Session # 1 - April 26th (Saturday) 10 am. to 4 pm. will cover
“ What exactly am I doing again?
- Difference between hunter and jumper courses
- How to safely build a course with proper distances (pony vs. horse)
- What is legal in the different show rings, hunter ring vs. jumper ring? ie. Tack, dress, equipment etc.
“ Planning your comeback “
- Proper training tips to allow your horse the time it needs to fit up
- What bit best suits my needs as well as my horse’s needs?
- Proper training tips for the rider to fit up
- Pole and jump exercises to fit up you and your horse for course work
Session # 2 – May 4th (Sunday) 10 am. to 4 pm. will cover
“Not just my truck and trailer need an inspection!”
(with guest speaker)
- What types of shots should my horse have to protect him before I start to show?
- Worming, types, schedules, rotating product, when and why?
- “COLIC”, show me the signs!
What can I do? When do I call a vet? What are they going to do that I can’t? How much will it cost me?
- Lameness: Types, signs, treatment, to work them or not to work them?
- Proper nutrition. Basic needs for the competitive horse vs. pasture pet
“We’re ready! OR ARE WE?”
- Proper turnout for you and your horse, ie.
Mane pulling, proper braiding (NO ELASTICS), fitting your tack, saddles, bridles, and bits.
-Bandaging? Should I or shouldn’t I? Types, why we do it? Can I really harm their legs if I do it wrong?
- Why my tack trunk should weigh as much as a small horse when I go to a horse show?
Cost: $65.00 per person/per session or $120.00 for both sessions. (Includes lunch).

SEMINIAR WILL BE FOLLOWED WITH A TACK SWAP FROM 4 PM. TO 6 PM. BRING ALONG ANY UNWANTED TACK AND TRADE OR SELL TO OTHER HORSE ENTHUSIASTS.
