NEA goes by Equine Canada rules. Here is the link, www.equestrian.ca/Sport/COMPETITION/2007_rule_books.htmlCan't find any info on the Novice Division but here is an exert from what constitutes an amateur rider, which I think a lot of us will fall under. Article A902- Amateur Status1) An EC amateur may not accept renumeration for training a horse or showing a horse at any EC sanctioned show. 2) An EC amateur may not accept renumeration for for coaching any person to ride or drive a horse, including riding or driving clinics or seminars. 3)An EC amateur may not train or show a horse , or instruct a rider or driver when remuneration will be given to a corporation or farm which he or she, or his or her family owns or controls. 4) An EC amateur may not act as an agent nor accept commissions for the sale, purchase or lease of a horse. 5) An EC amateur may not use their name, photograph or any form of personal association as a horse person in connection with any advertisement or article sold without the approval and signature of EC. This is Amateur Status in a nut shell. If you are someone who has been riding for a period of time (not a beginner), has shown before, but does not coach or train or accept money for any of the above listed, you would fall under an Amateur. I guard my amateur status closely. :-) An Open rider would be all of your trainers, coaches etc. Anyone who accepts money or payment for any service in the horse industry. Novice would be your beginner riders. There is a lot more information on the EC website. Hope that helps a little.

"4) An EC amateur may not act as an agent nor accept commissions for the sale, purchase or lease of a horse." If you an amateur you're not allowed to lease your horse out or sell your horse....

No, no.. You are not allowed to act as an agent.. This means that you cannot be the "middleman" for horse buying or selling. So.. if you helped someone find a horse and then took a commission for that service or helped someone sell a horse and took a fee for that service.
You can most definitely lease a horse and sell your horse as an amateur.
