So as a few of you on my facebook may have seen, I've been searching for horses for the past few months.
Well FINALLY after 2 trips to the mainland and countless different horses, I decided on and bought a horse!!!
I've leased and taken lessons, but this is the first one I can call my own! He won't be the last either, I'm still on the look out for a second horse. (thought I had #2 but he "failed" the vet exam)
Some facts:
Name: Darby or "Kentucky Darby"
Breed: Arabian x QH
Age: 9yrs
Height: 15hh-15.1hh
Gender: Gelding
Color: Chestnut with a tiny bit of roaning
Markings: white blaze on face, that's it (No socks to clean! YES!)
Training: English pleasure and moving into some western pleasure.
Background: Darby was originally bought at an auction on the mainland, at the age of 4, with his half brother after a man dropped off him and 30 other horses to an auction after inheriting them and not wanting them.
He was trained from age 4 up by the buyer, his new owner, a trainer with the British Horse Society. Then recently, and reluctantly, placed for sale as the number of horses at the facility surpassed the amount of time the trainer had.
That's when I snatched him up!
Our first ride was his first ride after a long winter break, and I was told he may be "too much horse", and that the owner had turned down other buyers for that reason.
Luckily our ride was a success, and we arranged a pre-purchase vetting a few days later.
May 23rd Darby "passed" his vetting with many compliments from the vet, great bones, perfect hooves, fabulous attitude, and not one drop of a sedative, even for his oral exam.
As you can probably tell from this post, I'm proud as punch of my new boy.
He's everything I could have asked for and more!
Unfortunately he's still in Nova Scotia, however owner of the barn he's at (his old owner too) offered me a working pupil position there for this summer!
I leave near the end of the month, and I CAN'T WAIT to see Darby!!!
