So beacuse I have never trained a horse befor im lacking a but of experince there so for his training log I thought I would do vedios? I would give a short speal about it and then have the link and you guys could check it out, critque it ( I love positive critisum!) , sugestions, advice on what do next , what to do befor I start something how to work up to it , just over all helping me out along the way I guess . So about Ernie to start with ! Name:Ernie ( show name if we ever get there Everchanging) Breed: STBx Qh/Nf Born :May,10.2006 Height:14.2 Sex :Gelding He knows the basics w/t/l , stop , back up and he just started to lurn turn on the forhand and from what I can tell it looks good for a start so heres the vid tell me what you think and all that good stuff ! First try on back , My leg is very far back im working it forward slowly. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbwEafmgI3gSecond day at it www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5eNNnA1r8kThird time pretty short I was on my way home from the beach and just wanted to jump on for a sec . www.youtube.com/watch?v=eN_gnlgdNRc

thats pretty good!
just a tip, I know you don't really have access to lessons or anything, but if you have ernie moving properly, responding to your leg and rein aids well, and if you know how to use them properly, this turn stuff will come much easier, I've only had three lessons so far with my coach, read my training log.. and today I had Benson doing a turn no problem.

... I don’t really have a video camera atm hopefully in a week or two when I go to town but these are from last week ? I was just putting around over some little jumps with Ernie for fun and did a couple turn on the forehand which he’s getting much better at . today when I went out he did a really good one with my leg where its actually suppose to be not half way back his body so I was pleased with that ... If any one wants to critique my jumping go for it I don’t know much about jumping at all never took a jumping lessons before so a critique would be nice www.youtube.com/watch?v=sha4ljoDc3Y

So I watched your jumping video.. twice actually and I just have to say that if you and Ernie are just learning to jump you should be wearing a saddle.. Also proper ground work with poles and then gradually working up to jumps would help... When your lunging him you really should have him go in the full circle instead of as soon as he jumps he stops and turns.. it's not giving him a chance to get his distance for the jump.. Also when your riding and jumping you shouldn't "jump" before your horse, (being in 2 point).. you need to make sure you have a good working trot up to the jump and then squeeze with your legs to give him more energy so he can properly take off.. I think alot more ground work with poles and such first would really be beneficial as he refuses alot and then ends up jumping from stand still.. Also you need to give him as much room as possible getting to the jump, instead of only a couple strides to the jump, use ALL of the space available.. also after you jump you need to keep going straight instead of cutting your corner.. I'm finding it hard to really write this all out, but I think really you should hold off on the jumping and do more ground work over poles and also being able to ride properly over the poles.. it will be alot more work to fix later on, if you don't do it correctly now.. I hope this helps a bit and I'm sure other people will elaborate more

he is doing better on the turn on the forehand Now my critique for you would be, you need to be sitting up instead of leaning and turning your body, this will make your horse unbalanced while trying to turn, also I think your doing something with your hand, poking him or something? you should be sitting up straight, it will be easier for him to learn if you were holding both reins instead of one handed (most Western horses don't go one handed until way into their training).. I would also give up giving him treats when you've done your turn on the forehand, his reward is, him getting to stand quiet and maybe a rub on the neck.. I'm not huge on giving treats while training, I think pressure release and a break is a great reward.. he seems to be turning his head and asking for a treat before he even does anything.. I've been reading this blog called MugWump Chronicles, she is a retired horse trainer who rides western and she gives great discriptions on how to do turns, slides, stops etc.. you should read it, great info.. heres the link.. i've actually went right to the beginning and read it from the start.. it might help you out with somethings your trying to do... GOOD LUCK!! mugwumpchronicles.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2011-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-07%3A00&updated-max=2012-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-07%3A00&max-results=50

I think he's looking great! You just need to work on what diagnol your on when your trotting and to correct him sooner then later when he's picking the wrong canter lead, other then that awesome job!

I think he is looking good.. I agree with calbert, you need to work on your diagonals, you need to be going up and down to the outside shoulder not the inside. i also agree with the canter lead, you need to work on picking up the correct lead. He picked up the wrong lead a nice few times, and he was cross fired going around the ring for a nice while which can be extremely uncomfortable for him. Also I would work on making him stay on the rail when you ask him to whoa, don't let him drift to the inside. Other then that you guys look fab. He seems to be a very willing horse
