Had a great training session with Cooter last night.
With him being so spooky, I wanted the vet to make sure his vision was ok. She was up yesterday for shots, and he was fine. No excuses in that department. Actualy he was surprisingly good for the vet.
I'm leaning more towards him figuring out that acting afraid will get him out of work, and the vet agreed.
So last night I took him out and did the desensitizing stuff with swinging the lead around. While I appreciate that some people like that, its just not for me. Cooter did very well with it, but it clearly wasn't for him, or me. And to be honest, I don't think its necessary for a horse to have to be ok with a rope flying around his head in order for it to be trained to ride.
He's just not an "in your pocket" horse. I believe he can be a great horse u/s. But not a playfull horse.
So tonight, we'll do some work with the saddle pads and saddle and get him used to walking around like that.
